Does anyone have a definitive answer as to the difference between "SC" flares & "RS" flares? Thanks.

Different shape to the 'lip' part. It's the kind of thing that's very obvious when you have an example of each right next to each other. (The RS is a little taller, I think, and more rounded.)
Hey Joe,
A pic is worth a thousand words... and I trust someone will post a pic for ya...
But the short of it is:
A Carrera flare has a vertical return (contour/lip/flange) that starts at the two sides of the wheel arch at about 15mm or 5/8" wide and as it climbs to the 10 and 2 o'clock position the return widens and flattens to about 30mm or 1 1/8" wide all across the top...
A SC flare starts it's return the same but instead of widening and flattening at the top it stays consistent at about 15mm wide all around the arch...
The fender profile and wheel clearance are the same ... only the return is unique.
Hope this helps
Now you see them....
Now you don't........(SC Flares...)...
Great example Lars ;) :) :) :)
And now they are all gone (never there!)
:D

And sometimes they get completely out of control:

;)
(I'll concede that Tom's looks better. The unflared look is the purest expression of the original 911 design, in my opinion.)
I like this... this is good...:D
Ive always been a little confused about this also. Thanks
And I shall concede that your very cool car has the sexiest rear end short of a centerfold.Quote:

Your car could be considered "Rubenesque" in stature. I wonder what Rubens might think were he around? Curves are a wonderful thing and on a black car they are absolutely "da bomb".
Regards,
Tom
PS: Now that the mutual BS is over let's see some more!
Here's a pic of my RS flares just after they were welded on. You can see the difference in the height of the lip contour at the top of the arch very well in this pic. The SC flares are almost constant width all the way around the arch.Quote:

guys, thanks for all the responses. didn't know i'd strike such a chord of interest! i always thought that the views in my rearviews were the sexiest out there.
my reason for asking about the flares is my recent purchase of Tom McMahons' 70 911s. the car has webbers as well as sc flares.
anyway, thanks again.

Constant radius or arc vs. decreasing radius (a hell of thing to find out on a track you are unfamiliar with, btw).Quote:

Good picture.

Thanks. That was taken over two years ago, and I'm embarrassed to say that they are still in primer. I am finally going to take the car apart and get the paint done here pretty soon. What is ironic, though, is that after going to the trouble of getting the correct RS flare from Troutman, I have decided after tracking the car for two years to hammer the rears out into more of a custom "ST" flare. I just need another 1/4-3/8" clearance to fit my 11" wheels under them. :rolleyes:Quote:
