Orange Bar vs Red Bar hood emblem

For the earlyish 911s it is my understanding that there were 3 different hood emblems. A orange bar with a relatively smooth back till 1971, an orange bar with a more textured back for 72-74 and red bar after that.

My car has a beautiful patina red bar, but is a 1973 car. It is unlikely that badge is original, given that the car had hits at both front fenders early in its life and we had to replace the latch panel during the restoration. However the hood is original, so it is possible the badge survived those incidents ? I have been told by at least 2 respected restorers that it is possible that red bar emblems could have found their way into '73 cars built in 1973.

What's the collective wisdom on this ? I have a line on 2 orange bar emblems, but as everyone knows, they cost an arm and a leg now. Would like to save the coin if there is acceptance of a red bar badge (it is so darn purdy with its patina), but will do it right if people think it is not plausible for a Feb '73 car.

    Ravi,

As far as I know I will say NO...........

Only because I have seen original orange badges on cars up to very early build '75's... '74's for sure.

Wow... I won't ask how much you had to pay for it, but it'll look perfect when it's put in place...
