    Center Cap Police

I was putting some parts away today and discovered that I have 3 different types of center caps. Can anyone identify which years the various styles were used? Don't pay too much attention to the fronts since I've been experimenting with different looks. I'm interested in the style of attachment and of course the example with the holes

#1 is the replacement for #2. They are both for ring type wheels. 74MY>
The replacement was about 84 or so.....The ones with no holes are the best for 74-84 restorations.

The three prong caps were used from the 4.5 67MY to 73 MY.

The wheels are machined accordingly for the caps...or vice versa....

BTW, there are variations of the caps besides the three main differences that you point out.

Someone said that the 3-prong early caps (#3) need a 65 mm opening. My car is a 73.5 so the 3 -prong caps would be correct - if I have a 65 mm opening.

    Thanks Harvey.

I have noticed variations in the three prong caps with regard to the crest style and flatness of the outside of the cap. Some I have are very flat others are more dome shaped on outer surface.

mrar, the flatter caps have been bent. They originally had a slight dome.
KIRK, the black is not original. Porsche didn't detail the early caps.
However, many dealers had them done prior to delivery.
