    Need Advice Selecting Paint: Tangerine

Well, my 69 E is nearing the magic time to enter the paint shop. The car's original color is Tangerine. I plan on driving the car regularly to shows and events. My understanding is that for longevity and ease of care, and protection from the environment that two stage is the way to go. For absolute true original finish, a single stage Glasurit is the "must have". I also understand that the "real" Glasurit isn't even close to what's available today under the guise of original Glasurit. So with all that being said. What is the best direction to go in? Which companies paint should I use if I go two stage? Which is the correct white/yellow primer color to use under the tangerine top coat? Looking for experienced opinions from the experts...Thanks

First, two stage Tangerine doesn't match the original color no matter what you do.
Second, I seriously doubt that you'll see any difference in maintenance or longevity in your situation using two stage.
The primer is key to a good match and you should try to match some of your old primer before it is all removed.
It probably is a light grey color. I have only matched Signal yellow, Signal orange and Viper Green though and haven't researched Tangerine primers.
I'm sure the painters will chime in.

My understanding is that all the Signal colors, tangerine, and perhaps a few others all had the same yellowish/crème colored base coat primer before the color was applied. Thanks for your thoughts Harvey.

You might also ask TC's Garage <http://www.tcsgarage.com/>, home of a Tangerine 911E just featured in Panorama.

Glasurit specifies a white sealer for Tangerine 6809 single stage urethane. Porsche code 18 (P2002). This (current) formulation is quite transparent, and you will see marked changes in the "color" across panels as the sun or other light sources illuminate different panels at different angles. I advise strongly against just putting this paint over primer, no matter what color of primer you have sanded to 800. Do insist on a white sealer over the primer, applied immediately before the paint. Your primer is probably not water proof, so the sealer does two things: first, it is your outermost waterproof barrier under the color, and second, its hue will affect the resulting tone of a comparatively transparent paint like Tangerine. For example, while Glasurit recommends white sealer under Tangerine, it recommends medium grey sealer under Polo Red. If your painter is not aware of these specifications you might want to reconsider.

Thanks for the info and leads. John Esposito is good acquaintance of mine and lives locally. I will most likely go with his recommendations, but wanted to hear everyone's opinions regarding the two stage. It sounds like the consensus so far is stick with single stage over the white sealer. The car is currently to bare metal so no primers have been applied thus far.

I'm in somewhat of the same boat. My car is tangerine, was repainted silver and although I never plan on selling it, I'm debating tangerine or 356 silver metallic.
