Thread: Option Code 9308

    Option Code 9308

Ref my separate 69 restoration thread, I'm asking a detail question in this separate thread for later ease and also in case of longer discussion. If these should be in my original thread let me know.

I have seen only one reference to this code, buried in the Ultimate 69 Soft Window Targa thread.

On my COA, it says "Information Not Available/9308"

Can someone confirm that this is an external righthand mirror?

And if so, how did the factory mount these? Probably a stupid question, given there are holes in the right-hand door, same as the left, in the same place. That would be most esthetic, but also not optimal for viewing from driver. And of course they could be for RHD cars, with custom placement for the few cars that got 2 external mirrors. Anyway, I'd like to get it confirmed before the drill comes out

Rhd cars used the pre-drilled locations, right hand mirrors on LHD cars had the mirror further back.

    Thanks sonett43,

The link, and the follow-on, contain very useful information. And some good visuals reproduced here.

I'm not making a concourse car in any way, but I prefer to drill once. I can place it where I'd be happy, or by that one picture (origin?), but if there was a template, or set of measurements used by the factory that were more definitive, I wouldn't mind doing it that way the first time.

I guess it could have been up to Hans or Franz to get it "close enough" given the way the trunks were sprayed etc, but with holes in metal, I wouldn't be surprised to hear there was something more concrete.

    Anyone with any insights?

I've not seen any like this before, I take it it was not too common an option? I think I remember Japanese cars had dual by law there?

    Another 'option code' list . . .
    http://members.rennlist.com/vilhuer/options.pdf

    Don't see '9308' --- just a bunch o' radio-related items in that 93XX series. '9128' = RH mirror, according to this list

Anyway, have you tried contacting The Faktory regarding your option codes . . . maybe/even your Kardex? 'Cause CoAs are pretty notorious for their subtle + not-so-subtle miss-info, so . . .

And I'm curious why you're thinking RH rear-view. From looking at the published pics of that mirror's placement, it sure seems like whoever installed that mirror on that door didn't follow Porsche's directions regarding placement. I also noticed that inside finish of your pass-side door was metallic blue, at some point. Is that the original door? 'Cause --- etc/etc . . .

And thank you for all the pics/details/stuff

Threads like yours are what got me all fired-up about Early Cars to begin with

    More/please?

    Reference . . .

    VIN = 119300960
    Eng# = 6391355
    Trans# = 7195481
    Prod# = ?

    LongRanger,

100% with you I want confirmation that this code is even referring to the mirror. I have not contacted factory yet.

I saw the following in the Ultimate Soft Window Targa thread:

    "119 11 0520, engine 619540, 1969 911T
US COA & German COA infos: Tangerine 6809, Black Leatherette, US Equipment, 9356 Retractable rear window, 9036 5 speed, 9301 Chrome wheels 5 1/2x with colored Porsche crest, Radio with Cassette player, Bumperettes F/R 9304/9305, 9308 Exterior mirror right, 9348 Tinted windshield, 9346 Tinted side windows Targa, Antenna/Frankfurt Radio US Band, US Delivery"

It was referring to 68-70 cars specifically.

I actually never asked myself whether the door was original. There was no damage to the unibody that would indicate any incident, but of course something could have happened to just a door. Though booth doors had the same early mat-like material, both worn in same manner, so i doubt just one door was replaced.

Thanks for the link - I will do some more research

So really I'm back to the question of a more exact positioning of 2nd mirror if any such exists...

Here ya go. It's a discussion, but nothing conclusive. In the end this is going to be more of a trial. I would put it up with adhesive and sit in driver's seat, move around to get a feel for where it's useful.

It's completely useless if you do a mirror image of driver's side (trust me).

    Thanks

I never looked closely inside the door during the restoration process, because I never knew of option 9308 and it never occurred to me to be looking for any signs of this. The above is all useful, and I'll remove the door panel to see if there are signs of what the factory did on the inside. It may be painted over, but I don't see anyone having been in there to cover up the back side perfectly.
