This 911 was built on April 11th, 1969 and brought in through Porsche Cars Northwest of Beaverton, Oregon. Merle Taylor Volkswagen/Porsche of Albany, Oregon sold it new on August 6th, 1969 to a Mr. Lyle W. Gilmore of Albany, Oregon. It was only ordered with a loudspeaker in the dash and Michelin tires.

This owner kept the car until 1975. He sold it with around 30k miles to Bob Salvatore of Portland, Oregon. On November 2nd, 1984, Bob had complete rebuild of the drivetrain, which included the following:

    New front oil cooler
Full rebuild to transmission with new pinion/gears/synchros/bearings
    Refinish/machine cylinder heads
    Recondition crankshaft and connecting rods
    Balance bottom assembly
Rebuild to 2.2L specification with new Porsche cylinders and pistons
    New valves and guides

The total cost was over $14,000. That would be over $36,000 in today’s dollars.

He sold the car in 2005 with around 91k original miles to Billy Morgan, a local enthusiast/collector. Shortly after purchasing the car, Billy took the car to one of the top area independent Porsche specialists and had them go through everything, as he likes his cars in top running condition. Highlights of recent/significant repairs and services include:

Install SSI stainless steal heat exchangers
Rebuild brake calipers and new brake lines
    New brake master cylinder
    Brake pads and rotors
    Overhaul pedal assembly
    New heater hoses
    Replaced spark plugs
    Replaced fuel lines
Restuff/restitch front seats and repair door panels
    Ceramic coat OEM muffler
    Replace all ignition wires
    Upgrade to turbo valve covers
    Adjust valves
    Repair shift linkage and bushings

Finally, a compression test was performed at 94k miles and the results were excellent:

    1) 165 2) 170 3) 170 4) 165 5) 170 6) 170

In total, over the last 5,000-miles, more than $12,000 was invested on routine services. This owner shared the car with a close friend over the past several years on vintage touring events throughout the Northwest. The car has always performed flawlessly and been an absolute joy to drive. Finally, at the end of last year, he sold the car to his close friend/co-driver. Unfortunately, this owner really has way to many toys and will not be able to enjoy this early S as much as he thought he would.

This example is one of those 911s that has always been cherished and enjoyed. Although it is not perfect, it is indicative of a low-mile/properly maintained and driven Porsche. The car is extremely dry and straight with no signs of damage, rust, or misuse. The black repaint is an older high quality job that looks excellent. It has minor nicks from use but nothing major. The rest of the trim and glass (except the windscreen) are original. The U.S. headlamps have been upgraded with H1 units that are in great original condition. The factory deep 6” Fuchs appear unrestored and in good condition with hand painted center caps (including the spare). They wear Dunlop tires with nearly full tread. The brakes have over 80% remaining as well.

The interior is equally as nice and mostly original. The seats have been re-stuffed. Most of the leatherette is original and there are no tears. The door panels, carpet, and headliner appear to be original as well and in very good condition. The dash top was replaced many years ago and there are no cracks. All the gauges including the clock are original and operate properly. The radio powers up but the speaker is not connected. It appears that the original factory Blaupunkt was most likely installed at the dealer as the original delete plate is included.

This Porsche comes with the original owner’s manual, service maintenance book, Certificate of Authenticity, extra key, spare wheel/tire, jack, and most significant records.

Recently, we had a top local Porsche specialist inspect the car and perform a leakdown test. The results were excellent (numbers off of 100%):

    1) 5% 2) 6% 3) 8% 4) 8% 5) 6% 6) 5%

Furthermore, they stated that this example was a very nice driver with an excellent chassis. There were a few items they found which the owner just had serviced (in total, $5k more was just invested). The buyer didn't want to wait (took a month to get the pump rebuilt). So, it is now sorted, tuned, and ready for the next owner:

Rebuild MFI pump and properly install
    R & R pump/set up and adjust
    Adjust valves
    New valve cover gaskets
    Oil service
    New spark plugs
Adjust cam timing and throttle bodies

We took a deposit on the car a month ago. It went in for the PPI and the mechanic said it was a really good car with excellent leakdown numbers, no rust, straight, etc. They found one issue...the MFI pump was original and never rebuilt. It was due. The cost to do the pump as well as a few miscellaneous minor items was about $5k.

The compression numbers were low (regardless of excellent leakdown numbers) due to the car sitting for the last 12+ months (car was in storage). We are now planning on putting some miles on the car over the weekend and next week. Then, we will perform another compression test. The work was done by Preston at www.sleepersspeedshop.com in Costa Mesa. He felt strongly that the motor was solid and fresh. It just needed to be driven more.

We took the car off the market while we were waiting for the pump to be rebuilt. We rushed it and it still took a month to get it rebuilt and installed. We literally got the car back this afternoon.

    Hope this ads some clarity.

Any questions about the condition, you are welcome to contact Mark Neely at www.sleepersspeedshop.com in Costa Mesa, CA.

I'd be pleased to "tune it for you". I'm not even Italian but received excellent training as a youngster.
