Need some help on 1969 911S heads

    Hi all,

Some time ago I bought a 901/10 911S 1969 longblock from a fellow ESR member. Together with the engine case, the crankshaft, I sent the heads to the machine workshop.
They grinded the valves, placed new valve guides, new helicoil sparks, studs replaced, new valve seals, etc.

After the machine work was done, I wanted to start building the engine, but there are no MFI holes in the heads, and also the sizes aren't correct:

    Intake valve: 42mm
    Exhaust valve: 38mm
    Intake port: 35mm
    Exhaust port: 33mm

Further casting info on the heads:

    901.104.306.2R
Production date 69-4 (and one 70-3)
    Cast Mark K1819d

I think they should have these specs:

    Intake valve: 45mm
    Exhaust valve: 39mm
    Intake port: 36mm
Exhaust port: 35mm (although I have read that sometimes 33mm exhaust ports were used on S engines)

Is that correct? I now think I would be looking for the ultra rare 901.104.308.0R or 901.104.308.1R heads.

What would be my best bet: buy other, correct 69S heads, or try to machine MFI holes and larger valve beds?

    Jesse,

    Those are 69T heads.

By the time you port, install larger valves/seats, and machine for injector I think you'll be upside down in them.

I probably have a set of race heads set up but they won't have dates and casting numbers you're looking for; that sort of carry on doesn't interest me.

It's a shame when people hog out the head to use larger cylinders when they would be better off using later heads with the proper valve angle.

The ad states that adapters are "readily available from Supertec". Henry does not make nor has he ever made the adapters according to him.

Not sure that these S heads are a safe bet than, at 2900 USD and no adapters available?

@Frank, what are the measurements on your heads?

There is also a set available from Woody, see pics. Striks me odd that these heads were from 4/68, 5/68 and 8/68, didn't the 1969 911S heads started around 8/68?

The casting numbers seems to be the correct ones, both 901.104.308.0R or 901.104.308.1R.

What do you guys think about this set?

Having bought a set that Henry literally put in my hands a number of years ago, something isn't adding up. Sounds like I need to call Henry myself.

I have a full set of 4/68 and 5/68 heads for my '69S. Mine is #31, so the super early heads are correct.

I've known Henry for 25 years. He and I compete for memory loss on a regular basis. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he made them at some point.
