I just get the mag and read the 68s article. Pretty car... although am I off to say that some of the details on the car may be incorrect? I noticed the headlights, and the lack of bullnose rubber. Is the owner a member here? Would love to discuss some of the details of the car, and see more pictures. Now on to the other story in Panorama!

Just a reminder, all but the 4 prototype R's, are M.Y. 1968. 11899xxx. The 8 identifies the model year.

I've always wondered why they are sometimes referred to as '67 cars, despite having 118# VINs.

I plan to send PCA a slight correction to their story......the car was NOT painted gold after Hugh Heishman's wife's Caddy (Joe Heishman is Hugh's father and who the dealership was named after)......It was painted gold because Hugh thought it would stand out on the track...simple as that....the black front as seen on the truck at Sebring was painted that way at the dealership after they got home from Daytona and found the front of the car was sandblasted as happens at Daytona...They knew they would have trouble matching the gold, so Hugh told them to just paint the front black.

Hugh told me all he had to give up to get the R was one of his allotted "S's".....dealerships were each allotted a certain number of S's as they were of course the halo car for Porsche. He told me no one really wanted them, it wasn't hard at all to get one.....The rear qtr window hung above the parts department counter for years.

It's not PCA's story. It's an interview with Kevin Jeannette. Please PM me Hugh Heishman's contact info so I can learn more for myself. Thanks!
