    Interior light for 1969 Targa

I am looking for the interior light for my 69 Targa and seem to have a hard time finding what came out of my car. In my car was a two-position light (either on or door activated). It is decidedly squared off at the edges.

All I can find as a replacement are different with rounded off edges or chrome trim. Do I have the wrong light? Do the ones available work and fit? Does anybody have what was in my car?

    Thanks - Mike

Should have these if it the one above the door frame at the headliner.

Hi there - it is for a 69 Targa and the light is in the middle of the Targa hoop. It only has one, not two lights (earlier Targas and coupes have two lights).

I think I have a couple of these. PM me with your email for details.

You have to be careful handling these are they are very fragile, and $100 each! The coupe headliner lights are not to bad, but the ones Mike is looking for are weak, break easy.

Rick, yes, the internal plastic construction is a bit fragile and mine finally broke. So far, I only got the ones offered with the rounded edges (which I think are Coupé lights).

I did use some strong glue and small zip lock to doctor mine back together and it works. Still looking for one though.

    Thanks,

    Mike

It is funny that all the dome lights that are shown have slightly rounded edges, are chromed/ have a metal encasing (Like my glove compartment light). My dome light has hard corners, it is plastic and does not have any Hella markings on them. Is the one I pictured actually a correct one for a 69 Targa?

I have never seen a light like the one you show in any collection of Porsche parts, All the Targa dome lights I have seen are three position lights with metal frames.

Tom - you might be right as i also have never seen the light that is in my car. It is a bit strange as my interior is mostly original. The light, for example, has a spring loaded connection on one side that pushes out a little metal rod. I think that's the ground as there is a tiny hole in the Targa bar upholstery so it can meet metal. For what it is worth, my car is a 69 Softwindow Targa but i would assume it does not change the dome light.

Did the lights that are shown here and that you shared with me came with polished or black metal frames? And if so what was fitted to which car? (My glove light is polished)
