Need Advice on Early (Leather) Hood Straps/Closures

    Hello there,

I am currently building something like an very early SWB Rally Car tribute and would like to add some period correct hood closures. I will be going with the seemingly unpopular leather straps. I plan on using the angled ones from the fenders to the hood. Does anyone have experience with this setup? I know its far more common to use later rubber "RS" closures to the front bumper but we are trying to build a car with more late 50's early 60's Porsche DNA rather than the later 60's early 70's style.

Anyone with actual experience with leather straps (or any other early Porsche Motorsport Closures) recommendations on a "best" source or even a set laying around they are willing to part with would be greatly appreciated. I have my own source for leather so I really only need quality mounting hardware.

    Vielen Danke!

Photos attached for eye candy/examples as well as a photo of what I'd really like to avoid.

Thank you Ernie. This is a very clear useful pic!

I believe at least one of the 69 Marathon De La Route Cars used Leather straps as well possibly due to the aluminum bodywork. Can anyone confirm this? Any other photos would be appreciated.

No the period photos I have for each car shows them with a single small rubber tie down in the center like the ones on the engine lid but it looks smaller
