Electric window stuck down

It's a 72, with the old style motor. It suddenly stopped working in the down position. I can hear the draw on power when I hit the switch, meaning (I think) either the motor has given up the ghost, or, possibly the window has gone too far down? It does have the rubber block at the bottom inside of the door. Before I inevitably open up the door for the umpteenth time, can a window be opened too far, and put the window regulator into such an angled position that the motor grunts, but can't raise the window?
I've already replaced the driver's side with a later window regulator and motor. It may be time for the passenger side. Just looking for input before digging in. Thanks

Mine has done that, I took off the door panel and loosened the motor mounting screws and tried again and it all started working. Maybe I relieved a little bind?

All I had to do is pull the door panel (and that D*** 10mm nut holding the forward pocket, with the window down!) and now it's working. Sigh. Much better than the alternative, but really? An electric gremlin is laughing at me. I guess it's an opportunity to clean the terminals on the bus bar, put it back together and wonder why. Thanks, Ed!
