    Targa Top Frame Issue

The fingers in hinge connection between the side frame rail (driver’s side) and those of the front folding rail are splayed out as shown in the pic below. This causes the front not to seal well on the driver’s side. Is it possible to bend these fingers back together or will that likely break them? Does anyone have a left targa top side rail for a G model? There is one on eBay but it specifies for F model. Is there a difference between rail for F and G?

    This is for a 73 911.

    Jim

Is that little blue line a crack?

Yes it is but goes only a fraction of the way across. Don’t know status of the back.

Would appreciate any advice about repairing this or sources for replacements? Also are the parts different for G vs F models?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Wrong vinyl for a 73 too, but Dan Pechtel should be able to help

An incorrect front seal might have caused this, he has the correct ones too.

    Thanks for he response.

Tony at Autobahn restored the top. It also has a new front seal from Targa Dan. Now I see that driver's-side frame arm needs to be replaced because the hinge finders are spread and one looks like it is cracked. I'm having trouble finding one.

I would also like a reference for the vinyl being wrong for a 73.

I thought the change from smooth vinyl to the posted vinyl happened in 73? 72 was smooth vinyl

I recently asked a similar question. As indicated in the link below, consensus from two reliable sources was in 1972 Porsche changed from smooth to rough vinyl. Let us know if anything out there indicates something different.

Dan redid my top a few years ago and used a grainier material than what Tony used. It looks identical to what it was before restoration.
