Tracing Oil Leaks with Liqui Moly Oil

    T
According to product literature, "this oil's florescent green color is typical for the MFC formulation."

Has anyone used this oil to trace oil leaks on air-cooled 911s? If so, I would appreciate the following information to guide tracing an oil leak in my 1972 E with a 2.7 RS engine. I am resorting to this procedure after having tried almost all known and discussed solutions/suggestions in this and other fora. The LiquiMoly site does not provide any additional Infromation beyond the above quote.

    > Would a UV light be required to see the oil leak trace?

    > Would one quart added to the tank be sufficient, or the entire oil must be replaced with this oil? If one quart is sufficient for testing, can it be let in afterward, or would a complete oil change be required?

    > Has anyone had success with using this oil to isolate sources of leaks?

    > Does anyone recommend using the conventional additive dye-light-glasses products sold by auto parts stores?

I have had this car for over 39 years, and have been "fighting" oil leak issues on and off. I even had the case halves resurfaced and line-bored by Oiilie's in my pursuits.

    Thanks,
    Bahman

My personal solution for finding oil leaks:
Clean the engine and sprinkle talcum powder or Wurth leak detector around suspected areas, run engine and watch for talc turning dark.

Where is it leaking? I’ve seen porosity in the magnesium case where oil just oozes out. Some idea of where it is might help others help you.

Regarding your first sentence/question, that is exactly what I am trying to find/isolate.

Whichever method you select, you still have to clean the engine.
Best to start at the top, triangle of death area and work your way down.

Here's what a shop did for me last year; Oil level sending gasket, Oil filter flange o ring, thermostat o ring and breather hoses. Rear main seal was also replaced. Ta da! No leak marks in the garage.

I have already done the procedures suggested above. My question is specific to using LiquiMoly Molygen florescent green oil to trace a leak that conventional detection methods do not seem to locate.
