    karmann or porsche

Can someone please help with information re who built the bodies
for the cars in the years 71 - 73

My understanding is that on the paint plate example 936/8/3 that the 8 stands for Karmann and if it was 9 it stood for Porsche as the body builder. If thats the case then only Karmann built bodies in 71, 72, 73 according to the info I have read.

    Is this correct????

I have heard two different explanations for the '8' in the middle of the paint code. One is that the body came from Karmann as you said and the other one is that is where the paint was applied. My RS has a '8' on the paint tag BTW.
