Question Questions: Paint Codes and Colors

    1. What is the best place to find information on early 911 paint colors and codes?

    2. Was there a color called "Fly Yellow"? Was it a bright or soft yellow?

    Thanks for the help

I think "Fly Yellow" is a Fiat/Ferrari colour.

Early 911 colours were (according to the Little Red Bood)

    '68: Bahama (6805), Champagne (6822), Signal (6823), Canary (6824)
    '69: Bahama (6805), Champagne (16153), Signal (R1007), Canary (R1012)
    '70-'71: Signal (7210), Canary (2910), Light (6210)
    '72-'73: Signal (114), Light (117),

Fly Yellow - 4 RSA's special ordered that color in 1993

    2. Was there a color called "Fly Yellow"? Was it a bright or soft yellow?

In 1993 Fly Yellow was available for the RS America model. 4 cars were special ordered that color. 1 suffered a car fire and was destroyed. 3 are remaining. The single best version of the 3 is located in RI currently.

Great color and VERY bright to look at even with sun glasses on.

And, it's for sale at what looks like a big color premium - $59,900

I believe Fly Yellow started as a Ferrari color in the late 50's ...
The color was as close as they could come to the background color of their cloisonné badge. (the field that the black horse rears on)

It's funny, if you go to an Italian car show you might see about a half dozen different shades of 'Fly Yellow' ... some VERY hard on the eyes (too green or too muddy)

The yellow in the Ferrari badge has never changed, all they have to do is match it.

    And so it goes...

Keith Verlaque, the founder of the RSA Registry, might argue that point. He has 1 of them here in San Diego that is a very nice example.

I also have the early Glasurit color samples and codes posted on my website here for reference, although the rendering of color chips on a computer screen leaves much to be desired.
