BaT Description:
This 1969 Porsche 911E Targa was first delivered to Bill Stremmel Volkswagen in Reno, Nevada, and moved to California in the 1970s. It is said to have remained with the original owner until 2008, and the current owner brought it to Arizona following his acquisition in 2013. The car is finished in silver metallic over a black leather interior with Recaro sport seats, and power is provided by a numbers-matching, fuel-injected 2.0L flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 15″ Fuchs wheels, a rear windscreen wiper, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. A February 2019 service by Zuffenhausen Motors in Scottsdale included a valve adjustment, new spark plugs, battery cables, a rear valance seal, a transmission gear oil change, an engine oil and filter change, and additional minor repairs. This 911E is now offered on consignment in Oregon with factory literature, past registrations, recent service records, and a clean Arizona title.
The car is finished in silver metallic with a brushed stainless targa bar, and factory bumpers and US-market lighting with chrome headlight rings have been retained. The rear valance seal and left-hand hood holder and associated hardware were replaced in February 2019, and the car is equipped with an optional factory rear window wiper. The seller reports evidence of some past paintwork on the front portion of the hood, and close-up photos are provided of the trim, finish, and refurbished targa panel in the image gallery. Included paint meter readings show thicknesses between 5.0-70 mils on many parts of the car, with thicknesses of 8.5-9.0 mils shown on the hood.
Michelin XWX radial tires measuring 185/70 are mounted on 15″ Fuchs wheels which show 1976 date codes, and the included spare wears a 185/80-sized tire. Photos are provided showing the stampings on the inner faces of all five wheels. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and additional work in February 2019 included a new hydraulic switch at the brake master cylinder, brake hose securing clips, and a bleed of the brake system. The battery mounting provisions were also corrected at that time, and the batteries themselves were replaced.
The cabin is trimmed in black with Recaro sport seats, and is equipped with a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Previously installed shoulder belts have been removed, and repairs have been made to the left door pocket. The brake light switch at the pedal assembly was also replaced along with the emergency brake boot. A four-spoke steering wheel fronts a suite of instrumentation that includes a central tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline, a 150-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, oil temperature, oil level, and fuel level. The included factory maintenance book notes that the speedometer was changed at just under 7k miles. Approximately 74k miles are now shown, 2k of which were added by the current owner.
Power is provided by an air-cooled 2.0L flat-six with mechanical fuel injection, and drive is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. The car was serviced by Zuffenhausen Motors in February 2019, including a valve adjustment, an engine oil and filter change, a transmission gear oil change, and the installation of a new air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs. A concurrent inspection noted compression of more than 150 psi across all cylinders along with correct injection pump timing. An incorrect injection pump thermostat hose noted on the report is to be replaced by the selling dealer with the correct item prior to delivery to the new owner. The car retains an original-type alternator and voltage regulator, and the fan housing and fan have been refinished.
Engine number is 6291456 and corresponds to the number on the first page of the warranty and maintenance booklet. The car retains a factory-style exhaust system with heat exchangers, and since the February 2019 inspection the car has received replacement MFI heat exchangers, new tie rod ends, and an alignment. Factory literature includes the owner’s manual, a dealer guide, maintenance booklet, and a Blaupunkt radio manual. The spare wheel and tool roll are shown in the image gallery.

Auction Description:
- Single-family ownership from new
- Less than 16,000 original miles
- A fantastic well-kept 911 Targa
- Please note that this lot will need to be collected from Rancho Sante Fe, CA
This North American specification 911 E Targa was ordered new by Inter-Continental Motors Corporation of San Antonio, Texas in white with red leather and arrived in December 1969. Just two options were selected, tinted glass and a Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo system, although there was an error and it showed up with a Becker Mexico cassette radio instead. In January 1970, the Targa was finally shipped from San Antonio to its owners, a prominent family in Mexico City. The Targa remained south of the border for the next 35 years where it was only occasionally driven but always well cared for.
In 2005, the family relocated the car to Southern California. At this time, they decided to freshen the car with new front seats in correct leather specification to make it ready for the La Jolla Concours. Today, the car looks great with cosmetics fixed as needed over the years, but never fully restored. It is currently registered in California although its Mexican registration stickers remain affixed to the rear window. Included are owner’s manuals and documentation from over the years, as well as the original purchase order. As it has been part of a large collection its whole life, the total mileage today is still under 16,000. This is a rare opportunity to purchase a 911 that has only been in one family for the last five decades.

BaT Description:
This 1973 Porsche 911E was reportedly sold new by Beverly Hills Porsche in California and spent decades in the Los Angeles area before being relocated to Arizona in 2006. It was later returned to California, where it was purchased by the seller in mid-2019. Power is provided by a fuel-injected 2.4-liter flat-six paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. The car has been repainted in black, and the black interior features later-model high-back front seats and a Raid steering wheel. In February 2020 the car was inspected, the compression tested, the oil changed, and the switch for the reverse lights replaced. This longhood 911 is now offered in California with an invoice for the recent service, a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, and a clean Montana title.
The Karmann-built body was originally painted Silver Metallic (936-9-3), and it reportedly had a windows-out color change to black during previous ownership. Replacement rubber seals and gaskets were installed at that time. The seller reports that there is a crack in the rear windshield rubber gasket, and that there is a dent above the Porsche hood crest. In addition, the seller notes that the black California license plate is not included in the sale.
Black and silver 15×6″ and 15×7″ Fuchs wheels have been refinished and are wrapped in Pirelli P6 tires measuring 195/60 in front and 205/60 at the rear. The brakes were inspected in February 2020, and factory equipment includes front and rear stabilizer bars.
The black interior features high-back leather seats sourced from a later-model 911. Other interior features include a factory power sunroof and a Sanyo AM/FM cassette player. The Coolaire air-conditioning system reportedly is a dealer-installed component; its control panel is shown in the photo gallery below, and cracks in the A/C console are noted below the radio and below the glovebox. A period Raid Racemark steering wheel frames factory instrumentation including a central tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline, a 150-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows just over 81k miles, less than 20 of which have been added by the seller.
The Type 911/52 fuel-injected 2,341cc flat-six is paired with a Type 915/02 five-speed manual transaxle. The car was serviced by Swiss Motors of Culver City, California in February 2020 with work that included an inspection, an oil change, and replacement of the switch for the backup lights. A compression test at that time yielded results of 140, 150, 145, 120, 150, and 145 psi, as shown on the invoice.
Stamping *6230865* indicates that the engine was originally built for use in a US-spec 1973 911E with a manual transmission. The stamping on the transmission case—7334904—is depicted in the gallery. Additional photos of the underside can be viewed in the gallery, and corrosion is noted on the heat exchangers. The Porsche Production Specifications certificate details the car’s factory-equipped colors and options.

- 2.2-liter flat-six engine equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection
- Five-speed manual transaxle
- Highly original; retains numbers-matching engine and gearbox
- Believed to retain its factory coat of Albert Blue paint
- Well-maintained Black leatherette interior
- Single owner from new until 2016
- Extensive documentation and maintenance history from new
A Porsche enthusiast will know exactly what they are looking at when they see this 1971 911 E 2.2 Targa: The “E” in the 911 E’s model name denotes a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system (Einspritzung being German for “injection”), while the removable targa top provides an open-air driving experience without sacrificing the 911’s timeless profile. But while the virtues and collectability of the classic 911 are well known, this example also offers qualities that place in more exclusive company: The instantly recognizable appeal and undeniable presence of a well-preserved, highly original car.
Chassis number 9111210785 was, per Porsche records, completed in May 1971. Delivered new to Montreal, the car remained in possession of its original owner until 2016. Under his care, it was enjoyed and driven—but always, as extensive service records detail, scrupulously maintained. Finished in Albert Blue with a Black leatherette interior, the car presents beautifully inside and out; both paint and interior are believed to be original.
The car’s 2.2-liter naturally aspirated horizontally opposed six-cylinder bears the engine number 6211494. Thanks in part to the aforementioned fuel injection system, first deployed on certain 911 variants in 1969, it achieves a stated 155 hp at 6,200 rpm and 141 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, gearbox number 7119341. Per the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, both engine and gearbox are original to the car.
This 1971 911 E 2.2 Targa is offered by its third owner. It comes complete with extensive documentation—including a maintenance journal kept by its first, long-term owner —detailing its entire life so far, including records of major service work completed in 2016. The paperwork only serves to confirm what the car itself makes clear: This is a well-loved, highly original 911 that is sure to captivate dedicated Porsche preservationists and casual onlookers alike.

Auction Description:
- Fully restored, numbers-matching engine and gearbox
- Highly optioned 911 E “sunroof” coupe
- Well-documented provenance and recent professional restoration after 40 years in storage
- Original 2.2-liter flat-six rebuilt and modified to contemporary “S” specifications
- Special order Silver Metallic over leatherette/corduroy sport seats; many additional options
- Believed to be one of the last 1,304 C-series 911 E coupes—built in July 1970
- Resided with original owner until 2014
This highly optioned and recently restored long-hood 911 E coupe was special ordered on February 20, 1970 through Hans Kahrmann Volkswagen-Porsche in Fulda, Germany by a U.S. Army officer stationed in neighboring Gelnhausen. An appealing options list combines the touring capabilities of the 911 E with several sports-derived features from the contemporary 911 S.
Marketed by Porsche as the most luxurious and comfortable model in the 911 range, the 911 E slotted right in between the 911 T and 911 S, replacing the one-year-only 911 L. ‘E’ stood for Einspritzung—German for “injection”—as the 911 E was, like the higher-performance 911 S, fitted with a Bosch mechanical fuel injection system. The accompanying bill of sale and order sheet show a build price of DM 27,745—a lofty amount befitting the chassis’s unique specifications.
Clad in special order Silver Metallic over optional black corduroy Recaro sport seats, chassis 9110201258 was released to the original owner at the Stuttgart factory in early July 1970; with production of D series cars commencing the following month, this car is believed to be among the last of the C Series 911 coupes produced. The optional speaker package, electric sunroof, heated and tinted glass, and rear wiper ensure that this left-hand drive coupe remains comfortable during long, varied-weather touring; air conditioning, however, is curiously absent from the this “touring-sport” spec, perhaps attributable to a weight-saving measure.
Optional improved front and rear sway bars work in tandem with a limited slip differential, and 15x6-inch light alloy Fuchs wheels provide optimal grip in cornering and poor driving conditions. The standard five-speed manual transaxle and original, numbers-matching 2.2-liter flat-six offers ample performance and low-end torque for brisk country cruising or urban navigation. Additional factory options on this 911 E include a rear bumper skirt and U.S.-spec gauges.
The factory-correct fog lamps and grille lights in chrome housings are not coded on the build sheet, but are mentioned in a repair estimate from Otto Glockler Verkaufs dated 25 January 1971. (The note seems to indicate a left side impact, with estimated replacement of the front left fender and fog light, left door, rear bumper, and horn.) Import documents and service records accompanying this chassis verify that this 911 E followed the original owner back home to Rhode Island in June 1971, then showing 22,100 miles. Additional photographs documenting this car’s extensive touring of continental Europe have also been provided courtesy of the original owner.
Fallout from a mechanical mishap, reputedly committed by port employees upon importation, left the coupe with a spun bearing by late 1973. Soon after, the original owner disassembled the engine and stored away this 911 E for the next forty years. Rediscovered in a Connecticut barn by a noted Porsche broker and acquired from the original owner in 2014, the car has since been faithfully and professionally restored under current ownership.
The steel monocoque chassis has benefited from a complete tear-down restoration and refinishing in true-to-build Silver Metallic exterior paint. Many components of the numbers-matching engine have since been rebuilt to contemporary “S” spec by Redline Service of Tucson, Arizona—including the cylinder head, valves, cams, and exhaust assembly. Additional work on the fuel pump and injection system was completed by Jerry Fairchild Industries in Shingletown, California.
The complete restoration of this barn-found, numbers-matching 911 E is documented in a binder included with the car; invoices totaling over $54,500 U.S. represent 760 hours of labor invested. The five Fuchs wheels are believed to be original to the chassis, with each reportedly having matching date stamps. Additionally, the seller reports that the rear seats are presented in their as-found condition. Though the exterior aluminum trim originally sported an anodized finish, it has since been chromed.
Now displaying just under 61,200 miles, this distinctive and compelling 911 E coupe is now offered with owner’s manuals, tool kit, jack, Porsche CoA, Kardex, service booklet, original order sheet and supplemental dealer paperwork, commissary note, import paperwork, and an extensive binder of service and maintenance records from new, including invoices and documentation of recent restoration.
