    POLL/CENSUS --- What's Your Lid? . . .

This Poll is to see how many vehicles here possess what I consider to be another one of the signal features of our cars --- the aluminum engine cover, so . . .

    What's your lid?

    Is it steel?

    Or is it aluminum?

Or is it something else? Fiberglass? Carbon-fiber? Undetermined? Or, maybe . . . secret?

I'm keeping it simple --- irrespective of model or year, Hot Rod or museum piece, Duck-tail or tea-tray . . . or just a regular ol' cover --- doesn't matter what it came with or how what it has now got there . . .

    All I'm asking is . . . what's your lid?

    Consider it a census more than a poll . . .

Steel, which was standard in 69. But previous (original) owner paperwork shows a quote for an aluminum lid from 1975 after a minor scrape. The aluminum lid was $159 piece in 1975...

    Thumbs up

Been running a factory steel/glass duck tail for about 18 years... but still have a original
all trimmed and appointed up in the attic. It even put spade connectors on the license light wires thinking I would change decks from time to time........ riiiiiiiight....

Still think about it every once in awhile........

    Details?

So as long as we're all here . . . . don't forget to tell the story.

Why do you have what you have?

And where and when did you find it? And how much did you pay?

I wanted an aluminum lid --- ever since I first heard about them. I come from Planet 356, and over there? . . . original light-weight anything may as well be made out of insanium. Just seeing alu panels for sale here was a big adjustment . . .

That's kinda the reason why I started this poll --- I'm real curious how many alu lids are out there.

Anyway, I picked mine up from Dave Merz, here on this board, about 10 months ago for $2500. (Thanks again, Dave --- wonderful bit.) It needed re-finishing but . . . so did the whole car!

All of which kinda segues into the other aspect of this topic that I'm curious about.

What have people been buying/selling alu lids for? I remember this one ad --- maybe 6-8 months back? --- for an NOS one for $4k . . . . which to me? Doesn't sound all that kooky. But, then again --- I wear my old Roadster's repro spare tire strap for a belt, so . . . .
