    69 Fuel Ventilation System

Can someone explain why the attached picture is correct? From the 65-69 Parts Catalog, item #49 has a diagonal 'Y' connector that vents to atmosphere (read luggage compartment). Is this uncapped Y spur simply for vapor flow, similar to the vent cap in a portable gas can?

In later models, all of these junctions appear to be interconnected with a much more elaborate capture and vent system (I borrowed the '73 photo from this thread): http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...leak-in-my-73S

Just curious, as my car is set up 'properly' according to the picture in the 65-69 catalog. It just seems strange to have this open in my luggage compartment like that.

In a 69 the line from #49 Y link goes to the bottom hole in the front latch panel on the left hand side.

I don't have the part number for the grommet where it attaches, but they are NLA to the best of my knowledge.

I just went to a parts store and found a solid grommet that fitted the hole and will punch a small 5mm hole in the center to take the vent line.

    I hope that helps?

    Thanks, Tony.
But I am referring to that (hard plastic) Y connector itself, the part exactly under the line in the diagram. On your car, if yours is like mine, it is open to atmosphere within the trunk area at the junction piece (#49), as well as through the grommeted vent behind the washer fluid reservoir.

O.K. I think I get what you are saying.

You should have one line that goes from the breather from the tank to the canister under the dash. # 54 in your diagram.

One from the other side of the canister which runs down to the Y connector #49 which as I stated before should run to the forward latch panel behind the washer bottle to the outside to give the system pressure.

The top of the Y runs up to the top of your brake res. For a breather line.

I haven't got mine back together so I can't give you a photo, but if you check both the fuel and brake diagrams in a parts manual you should be able to see how it runs.

For 69 only that end of the "Y" you show recieves the vent line from the master cylinder reservoir.

    Thanks, guys!

The vent line from the master cylinder had come out of the Y fitting and was lying underneath the bundle of stuff there. It's back together now.
That's part #10 in the below diagram for anyone following this.

    Beh,
Thanks for detailing the answers with the parts diagrams-very helpful. I'm getting my system back together. Can you confirm that the vent line #51 simply vents outside through a grommeted hole behind the washer fluid reservoir? Any possibility for a pic?

    Thanks, David
