Proper parts in a '68 911 tool kit

I have an incomplete '68 tool kit (i think). does someone have a set of photos of what a complete and correct kit contains?

on mine, the pouch is leatherette, and it contains:
open end wrenches (correct sizes according to parts manual)
box end wrench (correct size according to parts manual)
    red handle flat screwdriver
    spanner wrench

it appears that i'm missing a jack handle, phillips screwdriver and fan belt, but maybe more.

thanks, in advance for your technical consultation.

thank you. when i looked at the tool kit after thie posting, i saw that i had omitted the pliers, spark plug wrench and allen wrench, so i have those, i think.

i'm missing the tire gauge, fan belt (are there two of them?), and towel.

is there more detailed info on the tire gauge model and maker?

    thank you.

Others know much more than I. I seem to remember there was a debate
about whether or not the Messko (tyre pressure gauge) was part of the
toolkit in a 911. Search Messko and you may find some relevant threads.

Again I will defer to others who know more but I think the towel is an
    addition also.

Dr. 911E and Soterik are some of our resident experts, perhaps PM them
and ask them to chime in here if you can't find what you need via search.

If anyone is interested, the "Porsche towels" were never part of any 356 or early 911 tool kit! The towels were a creation of Chuck Stoddard about 25 or 30 years ago, he has admitted this to me. I have never seen any factory documentaion, i.e. owner's manuals, shop manuals, parts manuals, etc., which make any reference to the towels, or original owners who claim to have had a towel included with their car.

I have had original travel kits with the towels. For all of the tool kits that I have had none had the towel.

I think the Messko tire gauge became an additional accessory for MY 69 cars as it was no longer included in tool kits that year. It is listed as such in accessory catalogs for 69. I will be corrected if wrong.

Not true sadly. Travel kits all came with towels.

“All” is a strong assertion in matters early 911 especially accessory bits and bobs. Especially as I suspect the travel kits are a prime candidate for a dealer to have held just one or two on hand that they could hastily configure with readily available spares for the few customers who actually needed one. Yes there are patterns by year and lists on literature that show there were different composition with kits different part numbers — those still in cars or orphans whose contents are original strong pointer to evolution. However in reality I’d strongly doubt any commercially minded dealer back the day would have held all or many of these “slow moving kits” in all the configurations by model and year when it was a ten minute job to tweak contents. That’s why hard to be definitive imo. Somehow doubt even the national concessionaire or a regional importer would have wanted to stock all configurations and potentially be sitting around. Or become out of date.

I have the official published list of minimum equipment holdings PCGB expected of dealers and from memory they weren’t required to hold a travel kit. Kits of course could be ordered from factory but in that era before integrated computers made simple order fulfilment why wait when the occasional demand could be fulfilled with a little reconfiguring.

Hard to be sure what original unless one of the examples still on a factory bag with part number that correlate content to that shown I n parts books.

While can’t be sure original my car came to me three decades ago with a travel kit that has a towel similar but in details different to the current towel repros. Also car has a dräger tyre pressure guage exactly like example in the 73 U.K. drivers manual picture. It was / is in the glovebox — not in the kit — so expect that it is the original.

More generally new owners were given an opportunity to sign a self addressed tear out form the maintenance schedule confirming the accessories were supplied. Look carefully perforations are evident. Doubly many owners bothered. Sometimes this postcard was not torn out of the maintenance booklet so never returned. If still present the postcard lists what that car should be delivered with including a lackstift touch up paint which my car also came with to me with many years’ so ago almost certainly the original as its a limited edition that got 908 GP white on 73 a reserved colour.
