    Early Car Wiper Refills...

So, anyone know a place to get these?

I looked around on the forum and didn't see any threads

My car has the original wiper arms but I'm not so sure about the blades. Well, the inserts are shot. I would like to retain the original parts and just refill the blades with new inserts, if the blades are the correct ones.

Any sources or ideas out there? Stoddard confirmed that their newer superseding inserts that would not fit these early parts.

I am hoping these aren't NLA.

    Input appreciated.

    Thanks!

I had the original SWF wiper on my 70MY car and found a couple of sets of newer style SWF 13" style on ebay with the thin style blades that worked. I have a couple of sets left if you are interested in one

    Definitely interested. I'll PM you.

Looking at the picture of my blade, should I assume it's SWF? I thought I saw somewhere Bosch may have made them for 69 as well. Any maker's mark to look for? I have a painted dot (unshown) on the top edge of the blade. Not sure if the PO did this or if it was original to the car.

It could be as my wipers had a higher profile. Yours may not be original to the car when new but the narrow blades I have will work.

Try your Mercedes dealer, I always used 000 824 20 27 or 000 824 48 27 for the thin profile inserts and trimmed them to length (make sure to trim off the open end, the closed end is needed to hold the stainless strips in place) For the thick profile 000 824 18 27 will work. FYI, don't use the part numbers with the 01 suffix. They are hard plastic and don't use the stainless strips.

I buy new correct length wiper blades, pull the rubber wipers out, and put them in my old wiper arms.

It turns out I had some NOS 13" Bosch Microedge blades in my parts stash. Using one of the cheap shiny plastic adapters, the new blades fit on the arms fine. They just look a bit clunky, but I'm sure they are functionally okay.

For originality, I am going to look into the old school refills with the metal support shims to fit some original blades, using the MB part idea suggested above. I'll also keep looking in some of the boutique Porsche parts houses to see if they stock the refills only. BTW, the official superseding part number at Porsche for the blade is 964.628.901.02 with a dealer$hip price to go along with it.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

If you get new blades when you renew your wipers (the standard these days), then this post isn't for you. But if you have some of the period wiper blades and you want to retain that look on the car, they require a specific refill to work.

For me, the modern SWF (now Valeo) and Bosch blades don't look right on the older cars. Hence my fascination with Raj's rear wiper blade in this post:
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...l=1#post526856

So here is what I did with my period wiper blades.

Stoddards has replacement insert rubber that is the proper width and profile. It just happens to come in a long 22" piece that needs to be snipped to fit.

There was some confusion with the order, as the part # used to show enough for two inserts per piece. Since 13" does not go 'twice' into 22, you need to make sure you are getting two inserts with your order. They were apologetic about the confusion and got it right in the end. They have since updated their online parts catalog.

    Part # is 895-955-429-A.

Here is a pic of the wiper blades from a Gooding auction 71E supposedly with 6k original miles.

Lends more credibility to these blades being correct period and perhaps original on these cars.
