68 base or L, based on the rear fender reflectors and operational vent windows, and sporto.

The more I look at the rear script it's hard to see an S, plus if you take the fact that a 68S with what looks like period CA plates would be very hard to come by.

I was thinking it might be a 68s but you can also see the sporto script there so i wasnt to sure and there is for sure a letter behind the 911 emblem so i would bet to it is a 911L sporto, also if it was a 68 s then it would have been a euro import and had euro headlights?

I'm going to venture US-market '68 911L with Sportomatic based on:

    1. Sportomatic badge beneath model designation
    2. Wide rocker trim (not on base 911 or 911T)
    3. US-market reflectors

The car also looks to have the 1968 Rallye Monte Carlo window decal which Manuel has recently reproduced.

I would agree but now is the big question how can I find this car if it is still on the road?is there a way of tracking a car from the plate number?

So, are you the person being pulled over or the one in the Marlboro ad ?

Seriously though, some background on your search reasons would be interesting. Providing that info could give you more leads.

I believe there are ways to track plates, especially in states like CA where the plates stay with the car.

There's an interesting start. Do you know the years of ownership, part of CA, etc?

If you could scrape up an old registration document or VIN, your chances for success will go up.

I did find one photo elsewhere, and it was named 911t68 leading me to suspect it could have been a 911T, and we already know it was a black 1968 Sportomatic. It was said to have been purchased from a Hollywood dealership.
