Someone must have one in good condition
You wont find a good used original one as everyone deteriorates significantly. There are a couple type of replacement ones - one that is black foam and another that is foam with a thick grey rubberized coating that is similar to a couple originals I have seen. There was more than one type used throughout production. For around $100 you can get the current production one. Ask Tom at TCs Garage 760-295-3330 if you want a new one.
Larry,
I have this one available. Not sure if it is an original one, it was on mij 1973 911S.
My mechanic put a new one in, while this one was at the body shop...
Two small tears near the big 'incisions' but overall decent condition.
I'd have to weigh it to see how much it would be to have it shipped, since I'm in Europe.
(I guess it would be around $100 shipped but I'll figure it out if you want it)

Note the holes for a hood shock on each side, this did not happen until heavy wings were added to the car like in the late 70s. This is the replacement one with the thick grey rubberized coating I mentioned above. Still available new for around $100.
Can anyone post a picture of an original sound pad? Or describe the look of one.
I just took these... early 1970 911
Thanks, Mark.
I believe mine is as well but can't tell for sure. Surface graining seems very close to yours.
Bryce, if your backing is that thick "horsehair" material it is likely original. All the replacements have some type of foam backing, but are lighter than that old horsehair stuff (but still has heavy gray backing as Mark said) . However the problem with the newer foam backing is that the foam separates, leaving part stuck to the metal, and the rest hanging down. It is not a glue problem, rather it is the separation of the foam. The old heavy "horsehair will eventually separate also, but not as quickly as the "newer" foam stuff. I won't use the new Porsche stuff, this one area where I think aftermarket is better. I use a material called "armorflex" it is a close density foam that is still on my 72 after 26 years. So far I have never been knowingly gigged for it at a concour.
