Thread: Tracked Down Original Owner!

    Tracked Down Original Owner!

I'm the proud new owner of a 1970E.

I am the fourth owner, and have tracked down all previous owners, including the original owner who is now 89 years old.

I'm looking forward to getting the full history of the car, and to complete the missing pieces to confirm the car's 55K original miles.

If you had the opportunity to meet the original owner of your car, what questions would you ask??

This might seem blunt, but two simple questions before any others... why did they buy it, and why did they sell it.

Congrats on tracking everyone down, did anyone react as if you were crazed or a stalker?

Do any of the owners have anything that goes with the Porsche that they kept and would like to sell or get rid of?
Keys, documents, repair/service tickets, ORIGINAL WINDOW STICKER, parts or pictures.......
Does not hurt to ask, you never know what is out there.

I'd think I'd ask about their first impressions of the car, after they brought it home --- was it all that they expected to be, what it was like to use and live with, especially back when they were 'just cars, ' kinda following up on Russ's 'why did you buy it' . . . also, like Bryce said, their fondest memories, best drives, that sort of thing.

I'd also try to ask about their thought-process, and their choices at the time --- Why not a Z-car, or a 'Vette, or a GTV, etc. And the colors and equipment. Did they buy the car 'off the lot,' or did they order the car and wait.

Be sure to take a camera, too.

I'd be inclined to ask to see any pictures he's got from his period ownership - maybe photos from significant trips? Who knows, maybe its been to the artic circle or cross country to the Monterey Historics in period. How cool would that be? From reading the threads here, its clear that you never know what sort of epic adventure a 911 owner may embark upon....

Thanks for all the great advice! I found the original owner through a Google search! It's amazing what information is out there if you do some basic searches!
