I love that 68 NC dealer plate on it!

I don't. I do know Road Scholars though and they represent the very top cars for sure.

I meant to add no affiliation and I know nothing about the car other than what is posted. It looks to be an exceptional example so I thought it worth its own thread.

Richard is right of course. The owner's manual VIN looks to start not with 118..but it is a '68 no doubt. And really nice with "factory air." And come to think of it, did only the "L" models have "elephant hide" door panels. AND did the tool kit bag always match? Thanks.

PS Anyone got a Chassis number?

Interesting... Are those '68 sporto-only gauges? My '68 with a manual trans has the 'stripped down' 912-like gauges, no press/temp/etc. Oddity?? Also, I have a bat wing hockey puck. Not sure when that change occured.

Elephant hide was only for the L. Mine standard 'non-L' '68 also has basket weave door panels and aluminum dash trim....

OK, there, apparently, are a few things VERY interesting about this Porsche. Look at the blown up Chassis number is it not 118010108 (yes the 3rd character is an 8 as a 9 in this case is not possible and there is an EXTRA digit from what should be, ditto the engine number i.e. an 8 not 9) This would most likely make it a 911S. And in 1968 the S was ONLY available in ROW, i.e NOT U.S. But look again. 1968 US side markers..but wait, there's more. Is th engine number not 4083562. Yes, a 1968 ROW S engine. Do we have a wolf in 911 normal sheep's clothing? Badged a 911 for U.S. regulations but outfitted with S engine and VIN number and factory air. Interesting !!! Thanks.

PS Roadscholars, please PM for bank info for special commission due
BTW, I have seen small "liberties" taken in incredible restorations done by them..all very tasteful of course!

Good sleuthing, Allen... but maybe you've opened Pandora's box so don't expect a check from RS just yet.
A Sporto S engine would be 4180001-4180227. Curiouser and curiouser...

Good point on a Sporto engine! And 4083562 is beyond the range of ALL know S engines and the published range was well. Thank.s
