Thread: 911 Vehicle Weight

  1. #31
Two more data points. My '72, before restoration and in semi-track trim, was 2268 w/ 1/2 tank of gas. It is a non-sunroof coupe w/ a full roll cage, radio + speakers, sparco fiberglass buckets, fiberglass s front bumper, fender oil cooler, full carpet and spare (no tool kit). My '81 has to weigh 2702 minimum w/ driver. So figure it weighs 2547 minimum with all the same goodies.

The '72 will be back on the scales after restoration w/ an extra oil cooler, heavier street seats (sport replicas?), removed roll cage, full sound proofing on the interior, SC gas tank, an aluminum 915, and a 3.6L. Should be interesting to see how much heavier it is, if at all. Probably have 25 lbs of media blast material hiding in places...

just had my '73 hotrod weighed....here's the scoop on the car.

73 1/2, black (you know black is pretty heavy) w/ steel RS flairs, sunroof....fiberglass front and rear bumpers...SSI's w/heat, dansk muffler...ft. mount oil cooler...spare in place, < 1/2 tank of fuel, no driver....lightweight RS carpet set and door panels, RS lightweight seats, DAS welded-in roll bar, boxster brakes, superlight wheels (heavier than fuchs) 16x7's and 8's...it has a very light radio, but not much else. 3.0L (1979 MY) motor....

    2391 lbs.

I ran my 1973E over a local weighbridge yesterday and it was exactly 1200kg with me in it, about half a tank of fuel and some bits and pieces in the front boot (along with spare, tool kit etc)
so taking off about 100 for me and my warm winter clothing that gets it pretty close to the specified 1050kg

the 1200kg is 2645 lbs but with me out of it it would be closer to 2425lbs

there is no attempt at weight loss in my car which has full leather interior, sports seats

This data is from a post I put up a while ago. I think that it should be merged into this thread.

71 T coupe, no sunroof, with a 3.0 liter 930/16 motor, factory front cooler from a later model and factory sport seats. Also, has a five-speed, sway bars and 15" fuchs. Weighs 2404 lbs.

73-1/2 T targa, all stock, five-speed, sway bars, sport seats and 15" fuchs. Weighs 2442 lbs..

The above are with 3/4+ tank of gas in the coupe, full tank in the Targa. Spare, tools and jack in both vehicles. Neither car has A/C.

The numbers, particularly for the coupe, were higher than I expected. After some digging, I think that they're correct.

For reference, here are the figures from Car & Driver and Road & Track tests. I believe that they weighed the cars themselves, and didn't accept the manufacturer's numbers:

    1967 S coupe 2279

    1968 911L sportomatic coupe, 2420

    1969 E coupe, 2361 lbs.

1972 models: T with 5-speed, sway bars and fuchs, 2425 lbs., E Targa similarly equipped, 2475 lbs., S sunroof coupe, 2455 lbs.

Just weighed our 1972 to see how close we will be to target weight. Dry weight and some bits to put on - lexan side windows, mirror, 2 recaro buckets, taillights and headlights. Car has aluminum deck lid, fibreglass rear bumper. rear seat removed, glued in perlon interior and roof, 110 litre fuel cell, dual oil coolers.

1881 lbs, 853 kg. Close enough. We'll weigh it wet and with the bits in and post the results.

I should add that the car above has no undercoating or sound mats.

I'd love to hear from some o' the '69 Guys on this board --- like Bryce, Raj, Luke, et al . . . read what figures they have. '69s are supposed to be the lightest of the 'S's

Also, anybody w/ a Karmann-built coupe --- especially a 'T'? Allegedly the lightest shell of all

    Also --- more/any Targas

I'd like to oblige if I can find a scale. You would need to spot me a tare weight for all the extras on the car (2 sets of aux lights, rear wiper, rear fog, tow hook, 930 valve covers, etc). That stuff adds up...

Anyone know what the side scripts weigh?

R&T had a curb weight of 2570 lbs for the 1973 911S in their road test. I weighed mine at 2753 with aftermarket recaros, a momo wheel and no significant gas in the tank, no tool kit, but everything else pretty stock. Those rubber bumperettes must be pretty heavy comparing against the earlier years.
