Mountain legend: Nice way to spend 40 minutes...

I accidentally found out about this while reading UK classic car magazine, it's a period TV show on the running of the 65 Targa Florio... Ferraris, Porsches, Alpines, my kinda cars... and when I went to Duke video to see about buying it, I found out they have a download option for very little money... Less than 5 british pounds (vs buying the DVD).

Pretty cool to watch mechanics going after (now) priceless GTOs with a hammer to straighten accident damage... lots of 904 showings too.. Like I said, there are worse ways to spend 40 minutes. It's kinda like those shows Speed TV used to show when they were Speedvision, period video quality but fun...

Thanks for the heads up Greg. I'm going to look into this one.

I really miss that series Hobbsey did for Speedvision.

No problem! i posted it about a month ago. i really love these old rallye and racing vids. check out some of my other posts there while your're at it.. history of 912s in motorsports, some vintage rallye videos. even the factory footage of them building 356s (made by hand, a 5 part bit), as well as assorted ramblings and other fun stuff.

i am with you.. i miss legends of motorsports too.

Rats, 5 quids spent for nothing ;-) Cool blog Harry, wish I'd known about it sooner... 1st entry in it is about Rally...funny , as my other paid download form Duke was the 1985 season of the WRC... Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, Peugeot 205 T16, and yes, Porsche... I'm a rally fiend !! Tell you what, when I get my doors I'll mail you copy in return (incentive, incentive)

Bump for one of the greatest videos -- really captures what the race was all about. Pit stops are amazingly normal, barely orchestrated affairs what with pushing spectators aside to change the tires and spilling gasoline all over the car in the rush to get the nozzle in the tank! The sounds are wonderful even if they aren't synch'ed perfectly to the video. And the cars . . . oh the cars!

Indeed. The winning driver that year for Ferrari was a headmaster in a local Palermo school there on Sicily. Don't hear of that sort of thing anymore for sure.

    Excellent video

oh man, this is a great presentation.......to see them pushing spectators away when changing wheels during the race, the refueling "strategy", the returning of the lost center wheel nut, along with the scurrying dogs, spectators, the gang hanging their legs over the wall as cars pass beneath......its all so surreal, one wonders how more tragic accidents didn't take vastly more lives.

That Ulysses driven GTO sure came out looking a little race worn didn't it ? Especially shocking brutality when known current GTO pricing is in the 28-35 million range.
