Have to get a new CDI box. The Partsklassik one really is crap. Cuts out at 5200 rpm no matter where you set the rev limiter. Old spare from Robert runs all the way to 8000 rpm where the MFI piston float starts to become noticeable.

Ravi, we have had mixed success with Parts Klassic, I have one on my car that works perfectly, but I know of others that don't. I suggest you try Bob Ashlock at "Ashlock Tech" he has a different philosophy about rebuilding Bosch C.D.s He keeps a majority of the 'good' stuff and only replaces a couple normal failure pieces. He also has a test where he can 'hot run' the box for an hour.

Indeed Bob is shipping a Nov ‘72 box to me tomorrow by Fed Ex. We had a great chat on the phone earlier today and I’m convinced that is the way to go.

Great news and congratulations Ravi. Having had a major health scare myself a couple of years ago, I understand the euphoria you must be feeling now. The car is icing on the cake. Beautiful!

Fantastic news on your health and delivery of your car, especially your health! The car looks great; looking forward to seeing a few beauty shots from the road.

Great news Ravi, happy for you.
As this thread comes to a close, I would like to make a comment in reference the the Partsklassic CD box issue.
Had a 79 SC come in as a no start. Boiled down to a bad coil. The was a Partsklassic unit made to look like the "original Bosch" units. It appeared to be new out of the box. The coil had only been on for a couple hundred miles. I sent Partsklassic a email to talk to them about it and never got a response..
Sounds like they have a quality control problem. I agree with Ed, Ashlock is great to do business with.

It is a lesson many of us need to think about as we get older. We can forget how long it takes to really restore a car, and that is when the shop is making it a priority. I always figure 1 to 2 years. (Not to mention the often greater than expected costs).

In this case, it was closer to 8 before Ravi can start driving it again.

Consequently I would recommend buying a finished car, even if it costs more in the short run. We should value our time more. It’s different if it is a special or unique car, or one doesn’t mind waiting years.
