With the recent posting regarding MFI, would the members offer suggestions for correct starting cold/warm procedures. I am converting the 911S back to MFI from webers and I would appreciate the information.

Personally, I turn the key and when the engine fires I depress the accelerator pedal slightly! My 72S has original MFI and I've used this procedure for the past 18 years. Works first time, every time. It's more temperate down here in NZ than some parts of the US, so temps range from a low of 9 to 30 deg C year-round. Like the poster in the above thread, I don't subject my 911 to 4,500 rpm until the engine's warm. I only use the hand throttle on cold winter mornings after the car has started to maintain a higher idle speed. Once I'm in 2nd gear, it goes back to the floor. Good luck with reverting back to MFI - a great system when it's dialled in correctly.

The only comment I have is that as ethenol has been added to our fuel I seem to find that if the car has not been started for a few days it takes a bit longer for the pump to prime the lines. Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks for your experience. To be honest I really dislike having a cold engine climb suddenly to high RPMs .... I've always tried to crank my (non-MFI) engines just a little until I see some sort of oil pressure then go about starting.

Re the ethanol content - I certainly notice this with the 356 and the 912, both still running std mechanical fuel pumps (& electric fuel pumps for priming only). Not noticeable with the 911 though.

Allot ot the start up procedure has to do with the adjustment of the hand throttle. My 73S is set to raise the engine RPMS to 3500/4000. On morning starts, even on a warm morning, I only pull up the hand throttle and it fires right up. This cleans off the spark plugs after the squirt of raw fuel from the inj. nozzles in my stacks. I then set it down to 1500RPM and drive off. On hot starts I turn the key on letting the fuel pump run fo 10/15 sec. I then put my foot on the accelerator pedal to the floor and it fires right up.( I love that sound)
The only time mine will not fire right up is warm starts like when the car only sits for 2 to 3 hrs on a warm day. I have found this is when I after the fuel pump runs I crank it over while feeding the accelerator pedal untill it starts. Sometimes it fires right up but most of the time it cranks a little more than usual.
