Thread: FS, vintage 60's NOS Porsche 911 hood crest or badge, Never Mounted

FS, vintage 60's NOS Porsche 911 hood crest or badge, Never Mounted

FS, vintage 60's NOS Porsche 911 hood crest, Never Mounted

I am selling on EBay my NOS vintage Porsche 911/912 hood crest. I bought this 12 years ago at a swap meet thinking I would put it on my 68 911, but I never did. Here is the link:

I am slowly cleaning out the garage. I also have a single 68 only 15X5.5 alloy wheel that I have decided to sell on EBay if I can ever find a box that fits it.

    Thanks,
    Dave

The way the back mounting pins are attached don't look correct for an original badge, anyone else?

It's gorgeous and the front looks spot on. But the factory soldered on the pins and they were pretty sloppy about it. This is how they usually look:

I'm not commenting on the originality of the eBay crest at all - only differences I think I see between it and those in John's photos.

To me they don't look like the same kind of pin. The pin bases on the eBay crest appear slightly conical while they look flat in the pics above.

Also, where does the gold coloration come from? I though it was the color of the metal but looking at the pin to badge joint on the most oblique backside photo on eBay it appears that the color flows continuously across the joint as if it were coated after the pins were applied.

Again, I'm not offering any opinion as to originality. Just looking for differences. In fact, from the two pics above it looks like there is some variation in the original crests (e.g. the textures on the back appear quite different) so I wouldn't be surprised if this is just another example.

I saw the same differences, unless I am seeing something incorrectly here. I am interested in securing an "orange-bar" crest, as my car has the less desirable / later crest. I've been reading the threads about these, so hopefully someone can shed some light?

It is interesting that the eBay badge in this thread has a striking resemblance to the one that started this thread:

I think that the pins on both this badge and the one cited above are the same and yet are different from every other 'original' one I have ever seen....

I can assure you that I bought this crest at the Parts Obsolete swap meet in McMinnville, Oregon a dozen years ago along with some NOS early 911 horn grills and some other vintage parts that are now on my 1968 911 targa. This crest has indeed been sitting on my shelf in the bubble wrap it was in when I bought it for the last 12 years.

I have been an active vintage 911 owner for well over 20 years now, with my 1968 911 no-letter USA import targa and my 1981 911 SC targa.

    Dave...

Everyone is being careful not to call this a repo. I think most people are, as I am, puzzled by these badges and we're trying to figure it out. Remains a mystery to me, as they are different from most other originals. It's not just how the posts are attached that is different, but the posts themselves are different.
