Thanks for sharing some outstanding photography. He managed to get some amazing action shots that I'm hard pressed to replicate with a moden camera.

Thanks for the thread JD.
I only got as far as a quarter through but I noticed the 911s were all '68s.
Does anyone know if there were any Stuttgart made '69s run in the '69 T/A races ?
Cheers,
Dennis.

Thanks for the link to those great photos JD. They bring back memories as I was at that race with my dad who was one of the SCCA tech inspectors that day for the Trans Am race. I remember it as being one of the most miserable days I've ever spent at a racetrack, with snow in the morning and bitter cold all day long, similar to the weather at Watkins Glen in October for the F1 races.
The race itself was a classic battle between Donohue, Parnelli and Jerry Titus and very fun to watch. I think PJ made contact with half the field working his way to the front. The road course at MIS had just been completed the previous week and the mud around the outfield was boot grabbing. If I remember correctly this and the Can Am that year were the only races ever run on the road course. The transition over the oval had a huge bump that was responsible for Horst Kwech losing control and hitting a car in the infield, killing a man watching from the car.

Great Photos...Thanks
911's were no longer allowed to race in the Trans American SEDAN Challenge in 1970; so they only raced from 1966-1969. Most of the factory ordered pure race cars were 1968s, although there appears to be at least one 1967 factory ordered Trans Am car, and likely some 1969 models as well. But 1968 was the sweet spot for factory ordered customer cars. Plenty of "street" 911s were raced in Trans Am as well.

Jim, thank you for your reminiscences about what must have been a miserable weekend. I didn't start following racing in earnest until '71, when I could scrape together enough money to subscribe to Road & Track and Competition Press & Autoweek, and I didn't know the story of Kwech's sad misfortune of taking-out a spectator. MIS seems to be a dangerous place to watch motor racing!
