    1971 911T info please

    I have a Orange 1971 911T. It has the Targa Option, a 5spd transmission, and A/C. I was told orange is the second most rare and desirable color in a 1971 911. That A/C is extremely rare in a T, and the 5spd, and Targa option are also extremely rare in the base model T. That 1971 was the last year of the 2.2. Making this an extremely rare, and valuable 911. Is there a site where I can get production info and possible value of this car. I'm thinking of selling car.

    The Targa is a body style, not an option. The other style of course is a coupe. I don't have my reference books at work (hard to believe I know) but I'm sure someone can tell us how many T model Targas were made in '71. Yes it would be unusual to have A/C. This could either be installed at the Factory or most likely by the selling dealer.

    A 5 speed in a Targa would be pretty common, which was an option BTW. It would be uncommon to have a T with a standard 4 speed. There were several shades of Orange in '71, which shade is your car? Condition, originality, and documentation are the three pillars of value in a collector car. How does your car fair in these categories? This will get you closer to it's market value.

    The car is in original condition I will post the color code when I get a chance It is almost a county orange. There is only a small spot of surface rust on exterior car was always garaged by original owner. had a carb fire when I got it and I had carbs rebuilt needs paint because of that. The original interior is in good condition except speaker grille and carpets, the headliner is loose in the targa top. It is missing map pockets Original owners son said I could have them when they are located. I hope to put car on a lift and post photos soon.
    Thanks

    The badge on the left door hinge post has the paint code; for a Targa you will see a numerical code and a letter following that:
    1410 = Signal Orange
    2310 = Tangerine
    Mike is correct about the paint numbers, but they were not used on the badge until 1972.

    Welcome to the forum! We like pictures... .

    Orange is eye catching today and was popular back then. In fact more cars were painted orange than any other color in 70.

    I think the 71 numbers would be similar.

    Please share more info on your car as this is the place to learn about it.

    Before I make any comments, I need to let you know that I have owned a 71 911T Coupe with a sunroof (Rarer than a Targa) for 39 years.
    I have never considered my car to be particularly rare or valuable.
    911Ts were produced in far greater numbers than 911Es or 911Ss
    Anybody purchasing a 71 911 of any type would expect it to have a 5 spd trans.
    You do have a desirable color but the bulk of buyers would prefer to have a Coupe, not a Targa, IMHO.
    Options can make or break a deal. Does it have it's original 15 X 6 alloy wheels, including one in the trunk? does it have sport seats, instead of the regular seats? does it have its original un-cracked dash pad and un-cracked arm rests and door pockets? Does it have factory sway bars (Targas seem to have more of a chance of sway bars than coupes) Is the folding top in good shape along with all of the rubber seals?
    Did it come with the Appearance Group?
    Does it still have it's original radio?
    All that said, it is probably worth considerably more than it was a few years ago.

    Regards

    Jim
    PS: I would never sell my 911T!

    The paint code in the door jamb is 1410L signal orange. I was going to take photos when I went out to shop but the phone battery went dead. It still has original radio,wheels,tool kit, nice arm rests, speaker grille is tattered, one crack in dash, and I think standard seats. Original paint with damage mentioned above. It had Porsche stripes at one time as you can see a slight fading where they weren't. I will post photos of it on lift probably Sunday or Monday. The rust I meantioned is surface I scraped it and it was only surface. The carpets need replaced. Thanks
