Wiring question / oil level gauge

    Hi there,

a few years ago I got my 73 911 t repainted. Since then the oil level gauge is stuck high, as soon as I turn the key to ignition.
To me this seems to be a wiring problem. I checked the back of the gauge and all connections seem to be fine. So where is the connection to the oil tank located?
I am quite certain, that the ground cable or any other cable was disconnected while unscrewing the bumper or whatever.

    Best regards,

    ze German

Have you check the oil sender unit located on the oil tank ?

    ze,

Two wires go to the two spade connectors on the sending unit accessed under the rear part of the right rear wheel well... I believe both wires are brown, with one having a black stringer. Clean both the connectors on the wires and the spades on the sender, and also try reversing the connection of the two wires...

    Hope this helps

Mine did that when I had a bad connection at the 7 pin connector in the rear - same plug that does the tail lights.

    Thanks to all of you!

But I have to quote Lou Koller: "Frustration, frustration is all we get!!!"

The cables (dark green and brown) were both disconnected three inches before the plugin under the rear fender. It took me (perceived) hours and loads of bruises to get them reconnected - and in the end it is still not working...

Today I'll bypass all these stupid cables with two wires outside the car. We'll see...

Anyway: Again thanks to you all

No you can remove it in the car. Best if up on a rack, but no need to remove the oil tank

No need to remove the oil tank, but the wheel. Pretty easy to do, took me less than 30 minutes. Change the washer also and clean the place and conections.
    Cheers
