Original, unrestored vs. restored, concours condition

What is your opinion, where is the market heading, restored, original, tuned, improved, restored to its factory settings?

On Auctions there are no unrestored cars, never seen one. If they here for sale then there are sold in 20 minutes.

    So, how are the opinions?

I have no science behind this opinion BUT my feeling is the restored cars are usually the ones sought out more by "investors" "speculators" etc as well as people who primarily want to put them away to look at with little or no use and perhaps to show
on the other hand the original un-restored cars probably appeal more to the enthusiast and a minority of so called "collectors".
which will be the better investment in the long term? well apart from my basic view that i am not interested in these cars just for investment purposes (although you can never get away from knowing about price movements) the original un-restored cars must be the better long term investment in my opinion (so long as you get a good one). It is simple supply and demand: they wont be making any more of those and there seem to be more and more fantastic "better than new" restorations being completed each year

There is no question, the market has evolved to place the highest value on a classic car that has as much of it's history intact and known. Certainly high quality restored cars are also valued highly, but preserved and documented originality trumps all and probably will for the foreseeable future.

+1. Originality above all for value.

As we enthusiastically molest our 964's! And I purposely say "enthusiastically" because 964's are owned by enthusiasts who want to play with their cars. One of the reasons originality is so rare.

Not if you know what you are looking at and know what to look for.

I hear ya. I'm pretty confident I know what I'm looking at for sure...

But it's the enthusiastic seller that attaches that loaded term to their offering to trump up interest. Ironically, it often backfires as a sales tactic. It's like throwing down the gauntlet to the anoraks to dissect the offering, creating more scrutiny than the seller was hoping for.

Each of us uses our own sliding scale definition of originality, which is the point I was attempting to make above.

    So define original

    Good start. What about condition?

What about wear and tear items?
