    Early interior switches

I am in need of some advice: I just discovered that a PO installed later interior switches or just the knobs (headlight, fog light, hazard light, Webasto heater) in my car and I want to return them to stock.

Perhaps a dumb question, but here goes: does this entail exchanging each entire switch and knob, or are the older knobs interchangeable with the newer ones?

The switch bases (above the wooden dash panel) are black, not the later chrome which leads me to think that these are the original switches...

Any thoughts/advice gratefully received... (also, if anyone has any of the older switches/knobs lying around that they don't need anymore... please PM me!)

    As always, thanks!

Stephen, those are the same as the ones in my early '68. All black and with the rubber protectors over the knob (I have removed these). The rosettes attaching the knobs to the dash can be still obtained but not the fluted knob, on my research. The rosette and the knob both screw on to the switch shaft as I recall. I am not sure what was originally in the '66, however. They could indeed be the originals.

I`m thinking that the rubber covers(removeable)wouldn't be correct for a 66`.The rubber ones are a 68 forward USA affair, so the knob is threaded the same as the earlier knobs!Without the rubber pieces, would be correct for 67 and back...Rubber pieces are available now thru various suppliers(autoforeign services on ebay) to make a new home the plastic inserts ....excellent dash.....Cliff

    Hi Stephen,

Looks like it's the just the knobs that aren't correct for your 66. Believe you are looking for knobs like in the attached pic.

Are they not the same, except without the rubber covers?

Yes. Just remove the rubber covers and symbol pieces and you should have what you need

Thanks everyone for the info... so I have dismantled two of the switches to discover the originals underneath... but: the coloured end pieces are missing! Any ideas where I could find them?

I`m guessing; You need the center emergency flasher as in post #4 & the other two are okay as in post # 4. If so, just put out a WTB request in the FS WTB section here.Someone will probably have one & you can also trade sell what you have too...Cliff
