    Correct muffler color

    I´ve just purchased a correct stock muffler to my 911E from 1969. The muffler is in rather good condition, except for some minor dings and the fact that its missing almost all of its original paint. The dings will be no problem. But I´m not sure whats the correct color and I am in desperate need of some good tips.

    Best regards

    Nick

    Thanks for the help Kent. Now I know what color the muffler should have.
    A further issue that emerged is about the muffler bands should be painted the same color as the muffler?

    Very nice. How do we use it (primer, heat cured, etc.)?

    Nick, you will find the muffler bands in two varieties;

    stainless steel - just scotch bright it (polish if you must).

    or Silver zink plate.

    If the zink is showing rust a quick sand blast and coat with what ever you think looks like silver.
    VHT even has has a clear if the zink cleans up.
    Or sent them out for replating.

    It certainly looks better when the bands are not painted along with the muffler, IMO. I would leave them in their natural plating

    We recommend it over a bead blasted part. No primer. Spray it on and let it dry naturally overnight. At that point, you can either bake it at 400 for 30 minutes in the oven, or just bolt the part on the car and run it for the same time--let it cool and it should be good.

    VHT paint on some exchangers and muffler. THe dark grey is more correct and was no available last time I tried to buy it. The lighter grey primer is on the exchangers and looks better than a silver alternative. VHT stays on with very high exhaust heat, not much else works as well.
