    Door shut line

    Hi

Please see the photo i have uploaded.

The door is flush with the bodywork at the bottom of the door, but at the top it is a little proud of the body.

What adjustments do I need to make to correct this?

    Many thanks

Basically you need to move the top hinge in a little. This was all done before the car was painted, and without the striker plate in place so there would be no outside influences from the door against the striker. Once the door was fitted, removal for painting was done by removing the hinge pins so no alignment was changed. Doing all this on a painted car is more difficult, tape all edges before loosening hinge bolts and moving stuff around, and support the bottom of the door with a jack. If your hinge pins are painted and the bolt heads are chipped that is a sign of incorrect methods. You MAY also have to loosen the bottom hinge, because the hinges must be in a straight line with each other otherwise the door may bind and not swing freely.

It helps to have two people for this job, Stephen. One to help steady the door when the hinge bolts are loosened

Ed is correct assuming the upper part of the front door gap is also proud. If not, the door shell may be twisted. I've seen a few instances where the lower rear edges of the door are "in" too much with the top and front edge aligned. There are strategies to correct that, but they are not for the faint hearted.

Stephen, your door looks pretty close so it should not be too hard to get corrected or at least close. As Bryce said, a helper is nice to have. Take your time and keep a little tension on the bolts to help keep the door where you move it as you open and close for checks. Also, don't be surprised if it moves as you put some torque on the finish adjustment. After 20-30 tries you will get the hang of it .

What is the back story? Any previous work? Before you do anything with the hinge bolts makes sure your hinge bushings and pins are perfect.
