    1969 911s

i am having my 1969 RHD 911S restored.
my query relates to the colour of the badging (Porsche, 911, S).

the 911S badge on the glove box is silver. what colour would the external badges be - gold or silver? would they match the interior colour of silver or could the car have come with silver glove box badge and gold external lettering?

    With thanks,
    Andy

I think silver inside, and gold on the lid. Here is a good thread on a very accurate 1969 S, from one of the members.

    agbucks,

Welcome. You have a very rare car, a RHD 69S. Here is some discussion about how many exist:

Would love to hear more about your car.

Certainly happy to keep you posted on the progress of the restoration.

i am now trying to establish whether the 1969 S had an ally engine lid. i do know it had a 3 bar grill but was the actual lid steel or aluminium?

Should be alloy, but steel is a possibility.

MY69 has lots of one-offs... Where abouts are you located?

    I am in the UK.
Seems like there were lots of standard/option varients at the time, not just engine lid but rear wiper, over rider bumpers etc.
Getting a definitive spec is proving difficult!

    Hey, John . . .

I have never seen/heard of a '69 car that came w/ a alu engine lid originally

    Any details?

I totally stand to be corrected, but I've seen two locally (Australia ROW) delivered 69S with alloy engine lids. My 69T of course came with steel. I got the impression that perhaps the RHD S cars picked up this cool feature in the 69 year...

There seems to be a lot of debate over who got alloy, but it seems that it was only S cars and began somewhere in the late 69MY and finished somewhere around the 71MY...?

There's a couple of biggish threads on the 69 year that I thought might have mentioned it too.

Here's the big 69 model year thread http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...loy+engine+lid there is mention of the lid and licence plate panel being produced in aluminum during this period.

Andy, you should find some nuggets in the thread I linked. Your 69S also has the two year only oil lines running through the sills (69 and 70), and I think a one year only front oil cooler? I presume being in the UK you're on the DDK forums - lots of good Euro advice there. In Australia we also have the www.typ901.org registry where you'll find some good RHD resources.
