    RIP Sean Edwards

    Tragic.

    http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/110646

I wonder about the safety measures in place at the time- and also the circumstances as it sounds like a huge crash for a DE. Was the 996 a Cup or a street car?

Yeah, waiting to hear what happened. It's my local track.

Turn 6 is the last and not that fast... There is also a lot of run-off and kitty litter to get through before hitting the wall. Is it possible for a throttle to stick open on these Cup Cars?

This is EXACTLY why most seasoned pros I know won't ride as a passenger/coach.

    Truly tragic.

Some pictures here (nothing gruesome): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...ace-track.html

Looks like it was a GT3 RS rather than a Cup Car. Sounds like a special kind of trackday / high performance driver education event. I don't know what the rest of the track looks like so I don't know from which direction the car came but it looks like it came from the top of the picture straight into the barrier. Perhaps a brake line got rubbed through?

Not that it matters in the sad circumstance, but Sean Edwards was providing very high level tuition to an up and coming local driver in a 996 Cup Car - it wasn't a 'passenger ride' per se. Makes me think something must have gone catastrophically wrong as the driver wasn't a 'novice' and any normal error should not have resulted in the car clearing the kitty litter all the way to the wall.

Driver is critically ill with severe burns and injuries, and I wish him the best.

Wow, considering how well tha Cup cars did in that crash at Virginia International Raceway in the ALMS race two Saturdays ago, it must have been a very unfortunate and unusual cause.
