What is "Gold Safety Paint" Option - COA for 1972 T?

    Hey experts:
The COA for one of my cars (a US model 1972) showns an option they call "Gold Safety Paint". [edit - color of car is also listed as Albert Blue]
Based on a quick seach here, this question has been asked a couple of times in the past, but I did not see a response posted.
    Please enlighten me!

could it be - paint code 8810/8888 Gold Metalic might have been considered an extra fee option ?

Thanks for the reply. I should have put in my orginal post that the COA also says the color of the car is Albert Blue. That makes me think its something else. Only thing I could think of was gold script, perhaps.
    Any other ideas?

I found this over on the Bird - I think it was regarding 1973MY

Here are some prices that I have found in magazine articles that year. The prices were slightly different for the East and West coast cars and there may have been a price increase during the year. I believe West coast prices were slightly higher. The individual prices that I have seen are:

    Base $7,250-7,383-7,645

    metallic colour (Gold metallic) $235-262
    400 - light alloy wheels forged 6x15. $473
    404 - stabilizer front and rear 15mm $87
    470 - 911 s instrument, leather steering wheel ???
    568 - Tinted glass all around $81-94-124

get one of our German enthusiasts to translate this word for you.

    Sicherheitsfarbe

It may lead to a better idea of what it was. Many german words don't translate well into English. Just an idea.

Thanks - so perhaps Albert Blue Metallic then... that makes some sense.

This is a "safety stripe". The contrasting stripe was supposed to make the car more visible, the same idea behind the "signal" colors. Your was gold instead of black apparently. However, I did not think they were offered for longhoods.

max i believe that is correct although at least one longhood came with them from factory - a special build (mostly special paint job and interior) RS (9113601585) for Maximillian Schubart according to the RS bookName: 9113601585 max.jpg

according to the RS book the safety stripes were not offered as an option on series production cars until the 1974 model year

therefore while it could be correct that the car had these from new i suspect the more likely explanation is that the code on the COA was interpreted incorrectly when they put it together at Porsche
