    BaT Description:

This 1973 Porsche is one of just 1,055 911E Targas built for the model year and is finished in Sepia Brown over beige/tan leatherette. The car was sold new in Texas and spent time in California before being acquired by the current owner out of Virginia in April 2016, reportedly from its original owner. Power is supplied by a numbers-matching 2.4L injected flat-six, which is paired with the original Type 915 five-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 15″ ATS wheels, front and rear stabilizer bars, and chrome wheel well moldings. This 911E was previously listed on BaT and is now being offered again by the current owner’s son with service records beginning in 2009, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, factory manuals and tools, and a clean Virginia title.

Sepia Brown (54) paint is shown up close and from a number of angles in the gallery below. The rear decklid, front bumpers, and license plate panel have been repainted, and the seller notes that areas of the undercarriage and inner front hood were also refinished during a refurbishment of the fuel tank. Paintless dent removal was recently performed on the driver’s door.

15” ATS “cookie cutter” wheels wear Kumho Ecsta tires. The car retains US-spec “sugar scoop” headlight rings and factory wheel well moldings. New front bumperettes and wiper arms were recently fitted, while the removable targa top molding has been removed but is included in the sale.

Tan leatherette seats are joined by matching carpets, a black dashboard, and two-tone door panels. A Blaupunkt push-button radio and four-spoke steering wheel are fitted. The A/C has been removed, though components from the system are included in the sale.

The 150-mph speedometer contains a five-digit odometer that shows 33k miles, approximately 2,000 of which were added by the current owner over the last four years. Total mileage is unknown. New targa top handles and sun visors have been installed since the previous auction.

The 2.4-liter flat-six features mechanical fuel injection and is linked with a five-speed manual transaxle. Oil-fed chain tensioners have been installed, and additional work performed since 2009 is outlined on a list and in receipts provided in the gallery below. An oil change was completed in 2018, and the brake fluid was flushed in 2016. The seller recommends that a brake service be performed. Stamping *6231784* is shown above and matches the number listed on the Porsche CoA, indicating engine originality. Transmission stamping 339946 is viewable in the gallery and also matches the CoA.

The suspension pan was replaced and the lower left side skirt was repaired with a welded-in panel in 2015 by Eurofinish LTD. of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Additional photos of the underbody and rockers can be seen. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the factory colors, optional equipment, and powertrain numbers.
