    This 1966 Porsche 911 is a sunroof coupe that was delivered new to Porsche Cars Northeast in Jacksonville, Florida on February 18, 1966. It was acquired about 10 years ago by the selling dealer, who completed a mechanical refurbishment in 2019. Finished in Silver Metallic over red leather, the car is powered by a numbers-matching 2.0L flat-six, which has been rebuilt and is equipped with PMO carburetors. The original five-speed manual transaxle was also overhauled. Additional work included refreshing the suspension, brake, and steering systems, as well as repairing the sunroof and installing new tires. This SWB 911 is now offered in Durham, North Carolina with a copy of its Kardex, a service booklet, and a Washington title.


    The exterior wears an older repaint in its factory shade of Silver Metallic (6206), and closeups of the finish are provided in the gallery below. Imperfections are also shown in the gallery, including corrosion where areas of the paint have been compromised. The factory electric sunroof was repaired in May 2019, though it is said to require manual assistance to close completely. A new engine grille was also installed in 2019. Fog lamps are missing from the front bumper, and other missing items include rear decklid badging, rear bumper guard rubber inserts, the fresh air intake grille, and the antenna.


    15” Fuchs alloys have been added, and new 165-width Vredestein Sprint Classic tires were mounted in March 2019. The four-wheel disc brake system was refreshed at that time, including rebuilding the calipers and installing a new master cylinder, rotors, pads, and hoses. The suspension received new front ball joints, rear torsion bars, and bushings, and the steering system was overhauled with a used U-joint and a new gear, lower coupling, needle roller bearing, and tie rods.


    The cabin is upholstered in red leather, retaining the factory color and material listed on the Kardex. Additional trim includes squareweave carpets and rubber floor mats, as well as wood accents on the fascia of the black dash. Repairs completed by the selling dealer in 2019 included restoring function of the interior door handles and windows. Missing trim includes the shifter boot, radio face plate, and a portion of wood on the far right of the dash. Other noted cosmetic needs include a broken ashtray handle and worn sun visors.


    Green VDO instrumentation includes a central tachometer and a 150-mph speedometer, and the five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, with true mileage unknown. The selling dealer has added a few hundred miles. The clock does not work, nor does the cigarette lighter, windshield washers, right rear turn signal, or factory radio.


    The 2.0-liter flat-six was rebuilt in March 2019 with new pistons, cylinders, main and rod bearings, valves, rocker arms, timing chains, tensioners, and more as listed on included invoices. The crankshaft was polished and balanced, the rods and pistons were balanced, and the cylinder heads were reconditioned. PMO 40/32 carburetors were added, and ignition components were replaced. New heat exchangers were also installed, as was a new muffler. The five-speed manual transaxle was also rebuilt, and a new flywheel and clutch were installed.


    A stamping of engine number *903404* is shown above, matching the number listed on the Kardex. Transaxle number 226137 is shown in the gallery below and also matches the information on the Kardex.


    The invoice above lists additional engine components replaced, and receipts from other work completed by the selling dealer in 2019 are included in the gallery below. A cylinder leak-down test in August 2019 reported a 4% loss on each cylinder.


    Areas of corrosion are noted on the underside of the car and are shown in the gallery below.


    The Kardex lists the factory colors, options, and component numbers, as well as original delivery to P.C. Southeast. The video below includes footage of a start up and the engine running as well as the car being driven.

    Porsche used Solex carburetors up through engine # 303910 so this car would have originally had Solexes.
