I suggest you post the pictures you state were "appropriated" so we can verify that the do not belong to others.

Why don’t you mention the photos you need or would like replaced?
We can crowd source them?
As long as it remains a non profit public resource as intended.

Being the Internet is like being in an elevator - you never know who is listening. A real IRS informant, an IRS SAC, a lawyer, a lawyer from PCNA or Porsche DE. I have no recollection of you telling us who you are. Maybe TX, maybe NC. Mr. Abraham has offered a valuable resource. You have offered nothing. I look forward to seeing and verifying every picture, part number, and statement on your so far non-existent website.
We know them, and what they are asking isn’t completely out of bounds. I agree watermarking etc would be the better approach.
Your three posts are on this one topic though, and I personally feel too strong for this small difference of view in our community. While I know them I don’t know you.
Let’s let them work it out. And again, I’m sure we collectively can fill in whatever photo blanks are necessary.
Don't be a tool (whoever you are). I'm well known enough in this community to not have to answer to you.
And my transparency isn't an issue here. Benjamin has already admitted to appropriating the work of others for his site and if others want to donate their efforts, I applaud them (just as I do Benjamin for the work he put into a site for all of our benefit). But my images are being used as part of larger a project I'm working on - also for the benefit of my fellow enthusiasts - and there are a myriad of reasons I'd like them to remain exclusive to my future website. That's not an unreasonable request unless you're of the mindset that everything you see on the Internet is public property (here's a hint: it's not).
Benjamin has publicly offered to remove images that aren't his if requested - or give credit to those who ask - and that's the correct response. And while we haven't got that done yet, one way or the other we will and I only wish Benjamin the very best with his project.
I should add that if there end up being images that I don't use, I'm happy to let Benjamin have them. I'm also happy to assist with photos of tools he doesn't have if needed. But I'm not OK with his use of images that I'm using. Again - a myriad of reasons - and none of them having to do with being greedy. If anyone wants to discuss algorithmic search engine optimization - specifically the ramifications of duplicate content penalties as they pertain to Google's (and others) transition to a more image-reliant search strategy - I'm happy to have that discussion in private.

I'm struggling with this thread and believe that a lot of this comes down to plain old common sense, values and morals.
Having posted 1300 odd times I have often used other members pictures (to add to a post and on this site) but I do to others as I would like them to do to me.
I send a PM to the member asking for permission to use THEIR image and I always thank them for the usage of THEIR image I use in the post I place.
Pretty simple really.

Much ado about nothing.
I've posted many pictures I've taken and procedures I've written about without any expectation of proprietary interest, but simply to help others with a problem that I've solved or a bit of information that I've unearthed. If one is amassing information or images for a "project" that one is working on, it is his obligation to take the proper protective action prior to publication. It does no good to try and close the stable door after the horse has bolted.
BTW, I have freely supplied and will continue to supply information to Dr. Abraham. His intentions are ambitious and will move us much further along in this area than we have ever been before. Read, contemplate and contribute to make this the best resource possible. Correctness and completeness are the goals, not personal aggrandizement.
Pretty sad, all around.
There's a nice thread that has a bunch of great references already here.
Given the back biting and veiled legalese on precedent for photos on the internet, it's hard to understand this thread.
Why one has to go to PM to understand real motive, etc just smacks of where we are today in society. I say that apolitically.
Get a grip folks. These are pictures of old car parts for cryin' out loud!
Having a website devoted to nothing but tool correctness is a good thing for everybody. Trying to search S Registry can be very frustrating sometimes to find the info you need, and when you ask the group there is always that one guy saying something, "The search is your friend!"
And having one person obsess about the correctness of the toolkits is also a good thing for the community. I know Eric Chernoff's site was used for years, even though it wasn't incredibly detailed.
