I always find it intriguing that on the lightweight Carreras they deleted the glove box lid for weight but leave the ashtray.

Many people smoked including drivers so probably a go faster priority .. ha ha. They saved weight in many places but some things were little contribution to the 900kg homologation target but they were obviously looking in many places for fractions .

It is a late M472 Touring example converted to M471. But not quite consistent with how the M471 sports on that series were done. Later Sport didn’t have one piece rear for example they had steel rear like touring so it would have arguably been more correct to have let the steel rear of touring just removed the s-rubber. By chassis in RS range 140x the weight didn’t really matter for homologation weight saving purposes anyway because the cars by then were essentially series production 911 in many respects lost many of the special features of the RS limited edition.

I was watching as I’m “in the market.” I wasn’t bidding nor did I study the cars in detail. Certainly seems like premium pricing. I saw the RS book that sold for $1,200. I recently bought that same book from the same vendor for $600 shipped to the US. That really doesn’t make sense other than the “auction euphoria.”

Very original 911 Carrera RS lightweight M471 one of the best road vehicles that Porsche has ever built, a real icon for all time of this sports version M471. Only 200 vehicles were produced in 1972/73. There is a Porsche certificate and the Porsche production card. The vehicle was delivered in Grand Prix White Code 2201 with blue lettering and blue rim star. Factory options M471 sports version M220 limited slip differential, the RS engine type 911/83 is still original matching not restamped. This RS lightweight construction was delivered new to Verona/Italy invoice date April 1st, 1973 and was registered in Firenze. The original license plates still exist and were mounted on the vehicle. The vehicle was owned by the father/son family from 1973-2014 and was sold to a businesswoman in Monaco where the vehicle remained until 2022. A small restoration was carried out on the vehicle by Roock in 2023. Somewhere along the line this second series M471 Sport appears to have acquired a later rear slam panel?

No mention of that among the many words in the (translated?) blurb that extol its 100 percent originality? The rear slam panel is not one of the thinner .8 gauge steel RS-specific lighter-weight sheet-metal measures used on the true homologation RS examples however that panel does not seem to be the shape expected of a second series RS?

Is the rear bulkhead’s sound-deadening pad missing?

The M471 has been fully restored, is VIN 0945. Does not seem to have the sound-deadening indeed. Reproduction bucket seats too.

The tangerine M472 not sure about, very few (3) had Dunlop tires mounted per factory, all others Pirelli. If we know the dealer number it might get a bit easier to find the chassis number. Have not found a 1st series German delivery with color code 2323, interior 11, and option codes 409 (Sport seat L/R) and 452 (Frankfurt radio).
