FS: 100L Rally tank SWB restored genuine original

    SOLD
I have had this original 100L tanks for a while. I acquired it with a load of rare race car parts (sorry already sold off the other parts). Was going into my 67S project car but plans changed. It should go into a historic race car or something with this on the Kardex. It is a factory original genuine tank.

Restoration: It had some dents in the top of it so I had one of the best Porsche metal guys Joe George cut it in half, knock out the dents - hammer and dolly with shrinking as needed. We then glass bead blasted the interior of the tank, there was no rust. Joe gas torch welded it back together, pressure tested it. Then we coated the inside with a fuel tank sealer POR. Then it went to the body shop for some fine bodywork and black paint. Joe has done this same type of work on numerous motorcycle fuel tanks for restoration. It’s been on my inside shelf for 10 years since finished, never used.

You can tell the difference between the reproduction tanks - first the small vent tube is only on SWB and the reproduction only have the LWB tube. Then the real tank has an additional seam on top of the tank - they are 3 pieces, where the 100L add on is spot welded in place - the reproduction is made differently with only 2 pieces to lower costs.

**sold** $3900 plus shipping and fees.

I drove up to Monterey and back last week in my 2.2 911S. They are thirsty cars so I am considering putting one of these in my LWB car to save time. It took 3 fill ups to get to Monterey from San Diego on a standard 62L tank we needed to fill up 3 times doing 475 miles. One of these 100L tanks will need a pre trip fill up then only 1 full up on the way.

This tank I am selling is an original Short Wheel Base 100L. It needs to go in a special 65-68 car. The reproduction version is a long wheel base type - nobody makes a correct SWB version and you can easily tell the difference. Another major note on these tanks for SWB is they are heavy when fully loaded so they perform the function of the bumper weights or heavy batteries in LWB cars. Your SWB 911 will be much better balanced and handle much better with this tank full of fuel.

What is the difference between SWB & LWB vent sizes. I have a nos 100l. When I bought mine, I was unaware of a SWB /LWB version. Thx. Cliff

Definitely the vent pipe sets them apart. They enlarged the pipe all on LWB cars. I’m not an expert on these tanks as this is my first real one. Possibly other differences.
