Chuck thanks for the info, Am I missing something? Is there an exact cutoff number in the summer of 65 for the 65 model year?
We do not know the exact number, but we are very close to finding it if you read the tread I started, search "final transition" The cut of for the 65 to 66 was in summer 65, the approx. date can also be found in the same tread. many people have been involved in collecting this data, thank you all!

Raj, I have seen some pages before on the homepage of the Dutch guy with the 1964. I will check if they are still there and if I copied them! The photo copies are from the factorys own books!
Edit: Raj, emailed you his website.

The thread from 2006 was closing in on something like 301826 to 32140 being about the end of 1965 model year production.
The data point I can offer is that 301382 is a 1965 model year car with April 1965 stamps on its steel wheels and May 1965 stamps on its VDO instruments. It was delivered at Auto Rossel in Weisbaden on 21 June 1965.

Remember too that cars did not come out of the factory in exact serial
number order. Some bodies may have needed rework and been sent
back to the workshop. The only way to know for sure would be the
production records.

Too tell what a MY 66 is vs a MY 65 you need to know the changes first. FWIW 302101 has a MY 66 paintcode, 6602 and was deliverd on August 18th 1965.
I have collected quite some data on the cars built/ delivered around 301826 to 302140 and it trully seems the so called MY 66 (changes) simply phased in. Kind of what I learned from the first 66S, they were produced and delivered in the third week of July. This is before MY 67 was officially introduced but being an S it's easier to tell it's differences (engine#, gearbox#).
Just my $.02

U.S. 65s seem to be registered as 66s which adds to the confusion. #303212 was still a 65 model but had 66 style dash wood trim. My.0002 cents worth. Rick
I have had the engine apart on 301382. The cylinder heads are dated 3-65, 64-10 and 64-11 (I took pictures). It's back together now with late '65 heads.
