Sorry Jerry! Should have tried to keep it in the USA. It's on a Euro tour till the 'flip ' takes place.

It's so funny that just about a year ago at LRP Vintage Festival, Frank had the car on the show lawn/track and there was barely a soul looking at the car. Most people did not know it was the actual McQ, Le Mans car. It was dusty and had a damaged poster on the windshield. Oh yeah, Franks folding chair next to it also.

I think we should be thrilled! An example from our loved classic 911 has broken for the first time the million dollar mark last night!

Whether purchased by a Russian oligarch underbid by Qatar, or by a European or an american, it doesn't really matter, it only takes two bidders at auction to break a record, and it's all part of the market.

Prices will certainly continue to move up or down depending on the car, the condition, its provenance, its originality, etc.... but I think passing the million dollar barrier is a symbolic step for classic 911s which will certainly gain in terms of reputation and collectibility.

I'm certain my 2.2S hasn't gained a penny more in value since last night, but it is now considered a rare collectible classic car and that was certainly was not the case 15 years ago....

It will be interesting to see RM Lot 255 get auctioned (Siata 208S , ex-Calif. MTY 906 / McQueen) today/tonight.

There happens to be another example of the 35 produced at Goodings in Pebble Beach also , which was 1st in Class at the 2008 PB Concours d'Elegance. It is Lot 121 which will go on Sun.

I don't anticipate the RM example bringing multiple times the amount of the Gooding car however. But one never knows.

I am right there with you brother!

Although I do think your car and other great early 911's might now be worth a few more pennies.

Is everyone here actually happy about what Frank (with many others) is doing with our hobby? I am not. It is perfectly legitimate to make and manipulate a market, as the auction houses have, but I would never confuse it with pride of ownership or enthusiasm for cars and driving.

Andrea, it is a basic rule that you never argue with the market. It is what it is. You (and I) just don't like it. But, don't sweat it.

As for understanding the craze to buy an ex-McQueen car, I would suggest that you watch Day of the Locust. I would like to own that slate gray Turbo, however! : )

it's not directly relevant to me, my kinda car gets pushed out of parade parking. But: this car sold for more than motoring landmark cars such as the R. So, it's "provenance" of having been part of a movie link, is all. That is taken very seriously by a segment of our community, and especially by art afficionados. So be it. How does it harm us? But bottom line is this price was for ermine and sequins, not for the aroma of engine oil.

i dont think its necessary to criticise any collector who finds a future buyer willing to pay more. Happens everyday.

Help ma they're gunna wash my car

    Speechless in Seattle,

I am speechless about all the Dudes not thinking this is good for "EVERYBODY"!! There are only a few really valuable 911's that were born. Chad McQueen once said to me "I am in the lucky sperm club and not complaining about it"! Frank did what we all wish we could have (maybe a few of you wouldn't have bought the car....yea right) if we had the dough!

When Leo painted ol' Mona, do you think he thought it was going to be what it ended up? Who will write the first letter from the S Forum Boy's and ask that the owners of Mona to re think its value....... because when Leo Painted Mona it cost him an IOU on lunch the Tuesday he Painted it (he traded the oil and canvas for a cheese pizza). Give it a break! Let the new owner enjoy one of the coolest 911's (not even a race car).

O yea, you guys that have Porsche's, remember not to sell your cars for any more than you paid.....because that would be like Frank trying to make a "Buck" on a great purchase!

Nice job Don Franco! Maybe some day we will be just like the Ferrari Dudes.
