here are some comments regarding the 914/6 and 4 during this period that you had found and they were also in development around this time(68-69)-but the practice of chassis numbers seem quite different.

"My sense is that the very early cars did not have production numbers; either 4 or 6.
It could be the very early cars got preproduction but not prototype bodies. Again, the VIN's and production numbers do not have to be in proper sequence, they just climb together in general. It is quite possible that the first 10 to 15 cars (if indeed they started at 9140430011) got un-numbered bodies. The production number on 0033 is a full regular 914/6 production number, just a very early one."

here is what glenn said about the early cars

"#11 & #12 do not have Karmann plates in the door jam or stamps in rear trunk. #33 having a Karmann plate and stamps in rear trunk is definitely production"

Not trying to imply anything just sharing-also i am curious why you feel the door cards are original? I would like to see close-up photos of the stitching and the back of the door cards that will tell a lot.

    Hello Raj,
If your talking about my door cards I will be happy to take one off and send pictures with my findings,
this cannot be done until december 8th as im working in Turkey at the moment....do the cards sometimes have
pre-fixes on the back ie: #9922 as reference to the interior?
what are we looking for on the back of the cards?

Looks like they found a pre-production 911E. It is one of the #320 cars. Chris

    210bhp, what a great story.
Congratulations to you and BJMullan on a wonderful find.
btw, I'm still wondering how that taillight housing stayed in that one spot, on the side of the road, for six weeks.
