"It's pretty hard to beat one of your 275hp 2.0 liter 914's."

Apparently the dyno operator got ahold of some of that medicinal marijuana. 275hp? Not on our best day.

Lee hasn't seen his own car? Do you have any of my cars that I haven't seen yet?

My monitor is fuzzy because it still has coffee sprayed on it from the hp comment; is that a '73/74?
Does Christian still have his 914-6 roadster? (Leon's old car, right?)

    Bernie,

The cartoon cracks me up- definitely from the '70's. Sweet sideburns, big sunglasses, fat wife (or a weird dude with man-boobs), and a guy who apparently has to take a leak super badly (looks to be over 50 years old with an enlarged prostate which makes total sense). Nailed the Rivi's on the 4 cyl car though.

Sorry to go back to OG theme but it's where I live. Having studied the cartoon intensely I believe the artist was weaving a complex tapistry involving the angst between the husband and wife (things are not quite so great in the bedroom which explains the enlarged prostate. Not necessarily the bra-less, chubby wife's fault. Still not sure it's a wife... check out the wrist) and 4 cylinder versus 6 cylinder 914 ownership. No doubt in my mind. Genius.

As for the ventriloquist's dummy in the 914-6, that is beyond the scope of my creative imagination at this point.

Raj, Porsche sixes have always been flat.

The Cayenne and Panamera motors are Audi engines... Sorta the same difference as between a Vo-Po and a proper 914-6, isn't it?

Fad? "an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived and without basis in the object's qualities; a craze" Guys like Gumby '53 and me were in high school when these cars were new, so we'll just call it what it is and enjoy it while we can... When I had my first job and first driver's license I test drove a new 1.7. What a P-O-S... Couldn't afford it anyway...

I've always understood the 914-6 sales problem to be image-related: 1) Why spend that much money on something "everybody" (as in people on the street and most "real" Porsche owners) think is a VW. 2) The difference between a 914-6 and 911T is around $500. For that kind of coin, I might as well spring for the additional $500 and buy a car that "everybody" knows is a Porsche.

My first exposure was in 1970 (I was about 13 yo and a budding Porschephile, by then). My neighbor across the street debated between a brand new 240Z ($3500), 914-4 ($3500), and 914-6 ($5400). He liked the 914 styling, but couldn't justify the additional $$ of the -6. Back to the "I might as well buy a 911T". The 240Z provided considerable more performance than the 914-4, so that's what he bought. I always wished he'd bought the -6 and I vowed I would someday buy IMO the "sleeper" of the Porsche production cars.

I always used to chuckle when the "is a 914 really a Porsche" discussion would come up back when the car was new. I'd explain that when I joined PCA (in 67) the biggest dinner meeting discussions were whether we were supposed to flash our headlights at the new 911. Because we all knew that it wasn't a "real Porsche" A real Porsche was a 356 !! Now I gotta admit ,,,when it comes to an SUV,,,,well I don't know, the line gets blurry, besides I told Fred Schwab when they came out that they'd never sell any,,,,that's why I'm not in marketing!

I really enjoy my three "stepchildren"! There's always a cooler model or mod. The trick is to drive and enjoy the darn things for what they are.

I believe they were 'acquired' and prepped by Bozzani Porsche in Monrovia CA. when Allan Johnson still ran the dealership...

I also believe that my old late friend Topper Chassie's tangerine race car came from that bunch after they came back.........

Topper once told me that he picked up his 6 out of a group of them off Johnson's lot (Johnson was then Topper's brother-in-law through mirage) 'for a song'... 'they couldn't give'm away' Topper said.........

    .......... and so it goes
