I recently got a Porsche Sales Bulletin (B -4, September 22, 1972) and it reads:
Porsche for 1973
9.
"Internal door reinforcement beams for greater protection."
(As of January '73 Production)
Did they come with them ?

It's a good safety feature but unfortunately also adds weight.

I bet it's less than 5 pounds per side, just stamped steel.

Yup, they are in my Feb built 1973S. I prefer to think they add some rigidity to the body, rather than weight![]()

The attached photo shows the later, '84 Carrera doors with the "side anti-intrusion beams" ( visible in the top opening) I purchased from EASY to replace the slightly rusted (along the bottom) stock doors on my '70 911T Coupe.
For background information, during the restoration of the car, the total cost of repairing the original doors with factory "door-skin repair kits" would have cost me almost exactly what the pristine, used doors from the newer car cost me. I prefer the added safety of the reinforcements, as well as the rust protection from the galvanizing treatment to which all newer 911s ( after '77, I believe ) were subjected. As an additional observation, the newer doors fit my car perfectly and close with the classic 911 metallic "ping". There is absolutely no interference with my stock manual window winding mechanism or the door locks.
The increase in weight of the newer doors was a total of about 7 pounds ( approx. 3 kilos) consisting of the additional metal, the galvanizing process, as well as some factory-applied asphaltic "Dyna-mat " like noise-suppression material on the inside of the door skin for a quieter ride. (visible through the two lower openings).
