Dash Knob Insert Colors--Hazard, Rear Window Defroster, Cigarette lighter

I recently removed the rubber knobs in my '69 911 to clean the knobs and inserts. Time, grime and oxydation has left it's patina, but has also made it impossible to determine the original colors. I would like to "enhance" the original inserts I have in some minor way rather than buy new brightly colored ones. Does anyone know definitively what the original knob insert colors were for the Hazard light, the Rear Window Defroster and the smoke on the Cigarette Lighter? Thanks.

    David

    David,
Do some searching. I remember a thread a little while ago that had this color discussion.
I don't now if there was a final agreement or not. Maybe Smedley will chime in.

Kent and Harvey, thanks-especially for the link.

It seems there has been lots of discussion about the aux/fog knobs being amber or green; not too much about the other knob inserts. From pictures and other posts, i'll summarize that I think the hazard is amber, the rear defroster red, and the cigarette white with red fame.

Happy to be corrected if necessary. Thanks.

    Hi David.
I think you're mostly correct however the hazard knob looks red to me in the various photos I've seen.
This link has what looks like an original (& and rusty) '69 with decent photos of the dash knobs.

Maybe someone can correct me here.

Hazard seems red on mine too. That's with 43 years of grime as well.
I think David's summary is accurate with that clarification.
It looks like you have seen a post I made a while back about the 69 aux light switch colors. If not, see the thread in my signature

    Hey Guys!

I'm three weeks post op from a really big zipper! Just starting to move around. I'll get out to the shop and take some pics of my '69 knobs this AM.

I think the headlight insert is black with a white "sunburst"emblem, hazard is red, defog is red, foglight is green.....lighter is a black insert wiih red tiped white cigarette,,,the smoke is a white lined outline with black center.

Will confirm and photograph my car later.

OK...finally got out to the car. It was buried in the corner with a cover, and I'm not so agile right now. Also, you're right! As nice as my car is the inserts have darkened with age. Headlight and emergency flasher are red. Rear window defogger is red. My car does not have fog lights, but I believe it is green. The lighter insert is black, white cigarette with red smoke plume.

Thanks to all-Smedley especially to you in your post-op condition. Good luck in your recovery.

Here's my lenses after very light cleaning.
